Completely disappointed in News Manager Can't Post

Hello,

I have been a big fan of your solutions, and have installed implmentations of both listings manager and article manager for clients and personal web sites.

I recently purchased News Manager, expecting a scaled back version of Article Manager. To my disappointment, I didn't even get that. With respect to your other programs, I'm finding that News Manager is next to useless.

First, I'm completely and utterly disappointed in the fact that I am only given two variables to work with: $image$ and $conent$. When I think about how absurd it is that you have chosen to do this, I can literally feel my blood pressure rise. I have so little control over how my news is being displayed because of this. It's ridiculous. Why in the world would you not allow users to create additional variables so that we could include elements that your team was apparently too shortsighted to include? I'd love to be able to format the picture within the news content. I'd love to be able to add a caption to that picture. I'd love to be able to include a sub-head. Simple little things. Not included.

Secondly, an maybe I'm wrong here, but there doesn't appear to be any sort of archive option that would allow the news to be sorted by month or year. I wish I would have recognized that this thing didn't scale with time.

Thirdly, there's no search feature.

After using this program, I've lost confidence in your company and probably won't be doing any more interactive tool installations. This thing has been such a frustration, and I can't figure out why you'd even bother to sell it under the name "News Manager." It doesn't manage anything. It's merely a "News Lister." There's absolutely no "management" involved whatsoever.

I would not recommend this program to anyone, and after my experience with it, I would be hesitant to recommend any of the other programs I've used, though I've been generally happy with them. It's wierd, but I actually feel betrayed after using this program.

I personally think that you should get serious about the program and actually make it a "News Manager" or just drop it from your line-up altogether. I think you're selling a bill of goods here.

Re: [Taco John] Completely disappointed in News Manager [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi John,

Sorry to hear that you haven't been happy with News Manager!

The thing to remember is that News Manager is really intended to be a very simple program -- generally suitable for a list of newsletters or press releases. It isn't designed to manage the entire website, it's recommended to be a small part of a website on the whole.

A lot of small company websites follow a fairly specific pattern -- an "About us" page, a contact page, a products page, and an infrequently updated "news" page. This is the sort of site that News Manager works really well on, as it can drive the "News" section really well. It's really easy for someone with no experience in adding pages to websites to be able to update newsletters, short news items, press releases, and the like.

Based on what you're describing, News Manager probably isn't a good fit for what you're trying to do -- Article Manager would be a much better solution. Lots of people find that News Manager works really well for them -- we have thousands of people using it without any trouble, and it's exactly what they need! But in your case, something more robust would be a better fit.

If you'd like, contact us directly, and we can talk to you about upgrading your News Manager license to Article Manager, or any of our other products. :) You can reach us at support@interactivetools.com.

News manager has a niche. I have used it on almost 10 different sites. My client like the simplicity, and the definitely like the price. Article Manager is definitely the solution you are looking for, and I think it is only $200 dollars more.
