About News Mgr Vs. Art. Mgr.

Hi.... anyone out there ?? Posted this several days ago but no luck ------- I have installed now 3 Art.Mgr. for non-profits I donate my time to. I'm considering News Mgr. for a small site. AM is too much and out of their budget. All they need is to publish Tips and News and answers to questions. With that in mind: - Can the WYSIWYG editor now available with AM be install in News Mgr. ?
- News Mgr. has customizable templates right ?
- Can you call the article pic into the "summary" ?
- How many user can it handle and are all allow to publish ?
- Does it have a headlines template ?
I know you have to keep NM not to competitive with AM but a few basic features could be very useful, and make it a bit more marketable. I'm sure users who can't afford $300, wouldn't mind paying $150 for: - 3 type of users: admin, editor, regular.
- A box for Author's name
- May be limited categories
- A way to upload more than one pic and use ***image*** calls
- A printer friendly feature
- A WYSIWYG editor

Hi Pat, All they need is to publish Tips and News and answers to questions. One thing News Manager doesn't do is support multiple categories. News Manager only supports one news index page which displays every article that has been created. So with News Manager you wouldn't be able to create separate news categories for Tips, News, and Questions. News Manager is best used for websites (quite often company websites) that want to have a small news section on their website which includes website/company press releases. Can the WYSIWYG editor now available with AM be install in News Mgr. ? The WYSIWYG editor hasn't been made available in News Manager yet. Although I can't guarantee that we will be adding the WYSIWYG editor to News Manager, the WYSIWYG editor has had such great feedback that it's definitely worth considering. News Mgr. has customizable templates right ? Yes, just like Article Manager, News Manager comes with a set of template files. The templates are coded in HTML so they can be edited in any HTML/text editor or WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver or Front Page. Can you call the article pic into the "summary" ? Yes. All you have to do is modify the template files so the index file (which is used to output the news summaries) includes the placeholder used for outputting the uploaded picture. How many user can it handle and are all allow to publish ? With News Manager you could create hundreds of user accounts. The program supports two different user levels; administrative user and client user. Administrative users have access to both create articles and create new users, client users can only create new articles. Does it have a headlines template ? News Manager doesn't support a headlines template like Article Manager. News Manager comes with an index template that is used to create a link (headline and summary) to the full detailed article. It is possible though to trim down the index template so only the a link with the headline is output. As for the features you've suggested, those are some good ones. News Manager was, however, designed to be a basic news tool and Article Manager was designed to be more robust, that being the reason why it supports these features. I understand how someone would want a news program with these features at a lower price though. Maybe an Article Manager Lite Edition would do the trick. :) While we can't develop every product requested, a mid-level news tool is a great idea. I'll pass it on to developers to be included in our list of product requests. Luke Holzken Product Development
