I cant set the /data directory to 777 on my dedicated server! Can't Post

Help!

I finally moved dropped some change and got a couple of dedicated servers over at RackShack.net and I am having some trounle getting DocBuilder installed on my primary domain.

When I set the /data directory and its files to 777, I get an 500 error

So I logged into the box and read through the /var/log/httpd/suexec_log and I noticed that it freaked out due to the directory being "writable" (CHMOD 777)! Any ideas? I kinda tried everything, various permissions, etc.

Hi James,

Thanks for posting! :)

Normally we recommend chmod 777 permissions because this works on everyone's server, however, if you're using suexec, as long as the Perl user has read and write permissions on the /data/ directory and files within it you should have no problems. You should have no trouble using 755 permissions on the /data/ directory and files on a server running suexec.

Give this a shot and if it doesn't let me know. I received your support request with FTP, so if you leave the incomplete installation on your web server, I can then log in and give it a try. Wink

"problem solved"

Just an update that what was an 4 hour ordeal for me turned into a 5 minute issue for Luke. Two lessons learned today, (1) double check the obvious and (2) the InteractiveTools team is awesome.

Thanks again Luke.
