netscape/opera issues

Hi guys Good to see that you are using the excellent software produced by Gossamer Threads for your forum :-) I'm having problems with the display of even the basic (unaltered) templates in netscape 4.7, 6.2 and opera 6 on the Mac and the PC. Basically, all its churning out is a page of code rather than the output that i get in IE5 which is the headlines etc... I have reverted back to the system basic templates (maple and arctic both have the same problems) in a bid to try and suss out that it isn't my HTML that's wrong, but, i'm still getting the code output - for an example please see http://www.schoolsmusic.org.uk/artman/publish/ Hope someone can shed some light (thanks to luke for his earlier email). Hannah

Hi everyone, I replied to Hannah's support request via email but I thought I would post the solution here as well for anyone else who was curious or might experience a similar problem. It turns out that some servers don't recognize the .shtml file extension. As such they send a default content-type of "text/plain". Some browsers, like Netscape and Opera, see this content type and display the HTML as text. Others like Internet Explorer make "guesses" based on the data in the file and displays it accordingly. Anyway, the solution is to contact your hosting provider or update your webserver configuration so that it identifies .shtml files as "text/html" when it sends them to browsers. Then the browsers will render them as HTML, as they should, instead of showing the text source code. Luke Holzken Product Development
