click on category and reveal all sub categories

I have 5 levels of cat - 1 main then 4 subs. I know this seems over the top but ... I only have the main category showing which is what I want but what I am wondering is whether I can have it so that when the main category is clicked on all levels of sub categories can be displayed for that category. Is there a way of doing this? Thanks

Hi Margaret. Thanks for posting! I think I see what you are after. Could you log into Article Manager and go to the Server tab in Setup Options. From there, scroll down to Subcategory Format, check off One Level and then hit Publish All. That should let you see all your sub subcategories that are directly below your main category. If that isn't quite what you were aiming for, try Selected Branch Only. How does that sound? Give it a shot and let me know how what you think . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Ross I currently have one level selected which shows the parent category down the left side. I want this to remain but what I was hoping was that when I select the parent category All the subcategories (to all levels) are displayed for that category. But the others stay at the prent level. The selected branch only seems to only show up that category and all the other parent categories disappear which makes the site hard to navigate. sorry if I am still a bit unclear and it may not be possible but it would solve a few problems I have Thanks as always

Hi margaretmh. Thanks for the post! If I understand correctly you would like to have your parent level menu items always visible, and also show all the subcategories for your currently selected category. Is this correct? If so follow the steps below: 1. Login to Article Manager2 and go to 'Admin' --> 'Publishing'. 2. Select 'modify' for the Global Menu publishing rule, underneath the "Menu Format" section select 'One Level (Recommended)' then save your changes. 3. Next select 'modify' for the Category Menus publishing rule and underneath the "Menu Format" section select 'Custom' then set the custom attributes to: Show '1' level of subcategories from root (always visible). Show 'all' level of subcategories below selected category. Show 'parents only' above selected category 'Show' selected category. After setting these attributes save your changes then re-publish both your Global Menus and Category Menus publish rules. :) Does this help margaretmh? If you have any other questions I will be happy to lend a hand! Cheers, Chet Woodside - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Chet Thank you so much bu I am still with Article manager 1 - does this mean I can't do what you suggest? I am new to AM1 but really like the look of AM2 - I just had so many problems with permissions and the like with my server - the thought of moving over to AM2 really daunts me. Is it too difficult - my AM1 site has just gone live last week!

Hi Margaret. Chet's idea there would be specific to Article Manager 2 as the new version gives you get a way more options on how the category menus are published. With Article Manager 1, you sort of just get those 5 options you see on the Server tab. With the upgrade though, we are going to be here every step of the way so we could help you get that going. There are even options there for us to take care of the whole upgrade ourselves. The neat thing about upgrading is that it will happen in completely separate folder from the rest of your site so it isn't going to be interfering with anything Article Manager 1 is already doing for you. Let me know what you think and if the menu display is something you really want to have setup, I definitely recommend at least giving the upgrade a shot . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
