What are the temp_ files in the publish directory? Can't Post

Noticed during a backup that there are several files in the publish directory named like this: temp_1106763767.shtml

I assume those are temporary files and some I don't need to back up, but what's their function and how and when are they created?

(Sorry to bother you with this mini-question, but couldn't find anything about it searching the forums.)

Thank you.

Hi matrix.

Thanks for posting!

You are correct. The temp files in your publish folder can just be deleted. They are created every time some one uses Article Manager’s search engine. They should actually be deleted almost immediately (like several milliseconds Smile). The fact that a few haven’t been deleted is something I would file under “server hiccup at the precise moment it should have been deleted”.

This is definitely a trivial issue, especially if there are only a few. In a situation where there were lots and lots of temp files, it could be a slight problem and I would want to have a closer look at it.

Keep me up to date with how you are making out Smile.

Thanks so much for your quick reply. That was what I thought those files must be, but wondered why there were some left in some of our ArtMan installations and not in others.

I'll delete those that are there and monitor those sites more carefully.

Thanks again for the usual awesome Interactive Tools support.

Hey dude
Just doing a backup of one of my sites using AM 1 and I see there's 1.698 temp_ files in my publish folder as well as all the normal php files. Can I delete them? The temp_ files that is.... and why is there so many?
Peace

Hi Andy,

You should be able to safely delete these files without any adverse effects, but we always recommend backing up any files before you remove them from your server.

Chances are these are there because your web server wasn't allowing the software to remove these files. You may want to check that the file permissions on your publish directory are set to allow files to be deleted ("Read/Write/Modify/Delete" on a Windows server or "777" on a Linux server).

Let us know if you need anything else. Smile
