Upoloading to new server - upload mode? Can't Post

You recently gave me useful information regarding a move to new server - I made one move, and it worked perfectly fine, thank you. I need to make now a move with another website, and I realize there is one detail not entirely clear to me.

Regarding the files to be moved, the tutorial recommends ascii for the download of three directories and files, binary for one.

That is for download from the old server. What about the upload mode? Should it be the same, or is it better just to be on automatic mode? (I am on Mac and use Transmit for FTP.)

I was about to do it in automatic mode (cannot remember how I did it a month ago for the first website), then decided it would be wiser to ask first!

A reply would be much appreciated and would allow me to complete the move (I have made already a fresh install of AM 1 on the new server, everything worked fine).

Hi there

Thanks for posting!

Uploading would need to happen with the same format options as you downloaded them in but if your FTP client has an option for "auto" then you should be able to just use that.

Give it a shot though and let me know how you make out. The worst case scenario would be that you just need to upload everything again in a different format.

Keep me up to date Smile.

Thank you very much, Ross! I have done according to your instructions, and it is my pleasure to let you know that it has worked perfectly. Everything seems to be fine, and I now feel confident in case I need to move again.

I must say that one is sometimes intimidated when getting a warning from the FTP tool: "there are files which are not in ASCII format, do you want to switch to automatic mode?". However, in each case, I have confirmed that files should be sent as ASCII, and it seems to have worked fine. Probably it would be the same in automatic mode, but I wonder why there are such warnings.

Anyway, my website is now safely on a new server. It is amazing to see how (relatively) easy it is to move AM, when one thinks about everything it can do!
