Display cats within cats... Help!

Hey all - I need a little help. I'm still using AM1 - which I love, and I know... reasonably well. But here is my problem. I am using AM for a multi part magazine. This is how it is split up: MAG HOME (Home Page MAG Sections 1/2...)) --MAG Part 1 (Showing Issue 1/2/3...) ----Issue 1 (Showing both category listings for Headline & What's New) ------Headlines (Articles) ------What's New (Articles) ----Issue 2 (Showing both category listings for Headline & What's New) ------Headlines (Articles) ------What's New (Articles) ----Issue 3 etc etc... --MAG Part 2 (Showing Issue 1/2/3...) ----Issue 1 (Showing both category listings for Headline & What's New) ------Headlines (Articles) ------What's New (Articles) ----Issue 2 (Showing both category listings for Headline & What's New) ------Headlines (Articles) ------What's New (Articles) ----Issue 3 etc etc... Here is my dilemma - How do I list both categories in issues? The template needs to be split into two listings, however because each listing is created as and when the mag grows is can not be hard coded so it much be automated that the system writes in the 2nd cat (Whats new) some other way. Does this make any sence??? I hope it does. I have the Issues showing the article summaries to click through to the main articles... however it is simply (I hope) a case of spliting the results into 2 sections. Here is the link: http://www.bridgemanit.com/bridgeman_ny.php There are 2 articles in the system - 1 is listed under Head articles (left side listing) the othe ris supposed to be on the right? Any thoughts you clever people? Thanks - Si NOTES ADDED -----------------------------------------------------------------> Not sure if this helps but... What about if I could create a custom search results page which returned listings within the category name "Headlines" - This would be the same for all editions... is this poss?? Obviously it can be hard coded (i.e. a dynamically numbered file name) but i need it to be generated by the system so that the user does'nt have to play with code.

Hi there, I'm not quite sure I'm following what you've trying to put together very well. Is it not possible to simply have specific sub-categories for each issue and part? So you'd have categories for Part 1 & 2, categories for each issue, and then categories for headlines & what's new that have their issue & part as parent categories. Would that work for you, or am I missing something? :) Donna

Hi Donna - I kinda wanted to missout the initial step of choosing between Whats New and headlines by displaying both on a single page. I know it can be done by using specific hardcoded placeholders... but is there not a way to display both without the hardcoding? Maybe by searching for the name of the category - i.e. The category would always be called either 'Whats New' or 'Headlines'. Cheers - Simon

Hi Simon, By default, the articles from sub-categories WILL show up in the parent category. If they're not doing this for you, pop into the Setup Options, and choose Server. On this page, you'll see a checkbox for "Include subcategory articles in parent category article lists". This way, when you click on the issue number, all sub-categories articles (the what's new & headlines) will show up on one page, in the order you've specified in the Setup Options. Is that what you're looking for? Donna

Hi Donna - Thanks for the help. I have managed to sort this now. 2 cat listings on 1 page, no hardcoding and managed by the system by simply adding an option in the CMS to say left or right side. Phhheewwww - Pleased. Regards - Simon
