Hi there.
Thanks for posting and welcome to the board!
You can definitely add excel spreadsheets to your articles. All you need to do is make sure you have the extensions added to your list of allowed files. You can do that in Setup Options at the bottom of the General tab.
Have a look and give it a shot then let me know how you make out  .
