We're interested in providing full VB3 support in goforum, but we don't have a copy of vBulletin for testing.

What do you need ? I can install a fresh Vbulletin 3.0.3 (latest version) in a private folder and a private FTP access.

Shall you have any additional questions, please feel free to let me know.

What about IPB? Why would you single out VB3? Doesn't seem very fair to owners of AM that you would only support VBulletin.

Thanks for posting, Ginslinger. While supporting several forums would be ideal, the development requirements are unrealistic. Though we're currently looking at supporting vb3, supporting all (or even many) forum programs would require us to work with 3rd party applications that are constantly evolving and being upgraded as well. We unfortunately can't support them all.

That said, goforum.cgi is an editable script, and some users have modified it (or hired programers) to maked it work with other forum packages.

Re: [Theo] VB3 and GoForum Updated [In reply to] Can't Post

Theo I paid to have goforum installed by your staff less than 1 year ago. Shortly after, a forum software update left goforum useless as the code no longer supported IBP. At that time I was told that goforum would no longer be updated for any boards. Now we have this turn around that you would like to support VB. What makes VB so special?

I wish you guys would make up your mind what is going to be supported and what is not.

Re: [Ginslinger] VB3 and GoForum Updated [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for your reply. As Mike4172 noted, there are a lot of users requesting VB3 support, which is why we expressed interest in updating to work with that system. It seems to be the most popular forum system with our customers.

Although Invision is popular, we haven't looked at revising Goforum again for the latest version. Right now we're looking at VB3, but even there, I can't make any promises about current or forward compatibility.

We'd love to be able to support them all, but as you experienced, when forums are updated, goforum breaks. I would be tarred and feathered if I allowed goforum maintenance to affect development of Article Manager mySQL! :)

To be completely frank, this illustrates why goforum has gone without update for so long, and why we can't officially support it. We were too ambitious in supporting too many forums systems and it became too much effort to maintain while developing and supporting our products. I'm not saying we won't support Invision at some point, but if we decide to update GoForum, the number of supported forums will be more limited by necessity.

Hi Bryan,

Thanks for posting.

There are a alot of other tasks ahead of this, like finishing Article Manager with MySQL support and as Theo mentioned:

The good news is that GoForum is an open source script, so you may be able to find a Perl programmer who can help you update the script so that it works with your installation of VB3 in the meanwhile. We have a directory of Perl programmers that may be of help to you if you want to get in contact with someone.

What's the status on this here? IT still working on it, or would it be quicker if I attempted the alterations to update the script?

Mike4172,

We're actually in the middle of a maintenance build of Article Manager. We're going to wait until that is released before we update goforum, since that release may break goforum. If you need it urgently, it might be better to whip up your own mod.

Hi Aidden,

Thanks for the post! Smile

As Theo had mentioned we're currently doing some work on Article Manager right now. Once this work is done we then might look at any kind of add-ons, including goforum.

That said, maybe someone else will come forward with some work they've done in the past few months.

I hope this helps and if you have any other question feel free to let me know!

Cheers,

I don't need anymore goforum. I hard-coded each article with an art_field. I have just to create the forum's subject before.
