Text2Link Script... very nice

Just completed deployment of the Automatic Text To Link Script from http://www.amscripts.com * This vendor was mentioned in the recent IT Newsletter. This script allows a website to set certain keywords to automatically turn into links the first time they're mentioned in articles. This is a similar to what you see on the news sites like CNN, MSNBC, etc. For an example, see one of our AM articles here: http://www.growthtrac.com/artman/publish/article_469.php The "linked" words you see on the above page are generated by this script. Installation-- It's a straightforward installation. Just copy the files and build your ini file. The ini file simply contains a list of key words and where you want them to link to. The script can be run manually or can be configured to run with every Publish All (which is what we did). Good Support -- a few issues (due to weak documentation) were ironed out. I'm sure future docs will reflect these corrections. Michael (at amscripts) is responsive. Benefits -- Too early to tell, but we predict improved page views and improved "time" per visit. Also, if you've been creating these links manually (as we have) this script is a huge time saver. The script definately adds value. Hi, Thanks for the post! I'm glad to hear that this add-on script is working for you. It looks like it works really well on the site and I'm sure your review of it will show people that it's easy to use and a great addition to your site. Thanks again and if you have any other questions feel free to let me know! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hi again Francois Thanks for posting! I haven’t actually seen the text2link script working with News Manager before, but if you were to get in touch with Michael over at: http://www.amscripts.com He may have something he can setup for you. Just let me know if you have anymore questions ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Would Text2Link Script work in other website areas?

I was wondering if Text2Link Script work in other website areas? Say I used any of IT programs and I intergrated them into 'other' parts of my website that is NOT IT driven. Can the Text2Link Script work on any part of any website? Is it like javascript driven? thanks “Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to sell fish and he eats steak.”

Perl based cgi script. Its designed specifically for AM pages as it makes use of the publish all button to clean and readd links when articles are originally published or/and when they are resaved or whenever the publish all button is clicked. You could use it on other pages, but you would need to run it on a cronjob or manually. However, since its not an AM page, you would have to clean it manually if later on you wanted to add additional links. I think if you could make an independent version...

I think if you could make an independant version of text2link, that could run independently, like a log in cgi generator script to place text2links anywhere when a webpage has a specific 'tag' to convert text2links on specific pages...would most likely be a popular script. there was a company selling a generalized text2link ad afilliate service as long as script was hosted on their servers. something to think about...thx “Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to sell fish and he eats steak.”
