Sign up to be a writer?

I would like to add a form where people could either sign up to be a writer or submit an article without needing a password. Any ideas? Thanks Kimber

Hi Kimber. Thanks for posting . I actually overlooked a simple setting in Article Manger that’s going to let you do this. If you go to Setup Options and uncheck the “Allow Article Types” option, all your articles will be set to Full Articles by default. There won’t be any options. One thing to keep in mind is that this is a global setting so everyone’s articles will be automatically set to Full; even administrators. Let me know if you need anymore details . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Thanks Ross for the tutorial. Implemented without a hitch. Works great but would sure lve to be able to limit what input fields display for the new "contributers" yet allow all input fields display for admins and other accounts. Any idea how this can this be done? I realize I have been bombarding you with "how-to" questions but I am really focussed right now on getting article manager better integrated into our site. All of your help is very much appreciated.

Hi shalliday, Thanks for posting. There isn't a way for some fields to be available for specific user types. All the fields will be show for all the users. What I've seen people do in the past is enable and disable that additional field as needed. So what you can do as the admin is enable specific fields when you want to enter text into them, add the articles that you want, and then disable those fields when you are done so that regular users don't see that option when they are adding the articles. It's not totally automated, but it will give you the same effect. Regards, Cliff Stefanuk - Customer Service Manager support@interactivetools.com

Hi Tommy, Thanks for your email. :) Since Article Manager is intended for multiple users, it already takes this into account with filelocking. This means that if two people try to update at the same time, one user will get a message letting them know that the database is currently in use (this should only happen if the users click "save" within less than a second of each other -- it's very uncommon). What filelocking means is that Article Manager locks the file, updates it, then releases the lock and allows anyone else to update it. :) I hope this helps. :) Donna
