RSS Syndicated Content Can't Post

Hi everyone,

We've received several requests for Article Manager to output it's syndicated content in RSS. And while we'll certainly get to this in time, I thought I'd first open it up to the forum to see if any gung-ho programmer wanted a go at it first.

Just think, you will make a lot of people happy...! :-)

Re: [Benjamin] RSS Syndicated Content [In reply to] Can't Post

Last week we saw 100,000 unique visitors to http://electronicIraq.net/ which is a unique site in that it is being used to offer the only alt.news accounts from peace activists based in Baghdad.

This week the number will be higher, as we're seeing between 5-10GB of daily bandwidth use, higher than last week. The Electronic Iraq system runs 100% through Artman, which was one of the design goals for reasons of simplicity.

I have received 5 requests for RSS//RDF syndication feeds this week alone. To date, I have probably received 15-20 requests from the 2 ArtMan hard news sites I run.

An increasing number of people are dealing with the torrent of information about the current crisis -- and indeed in general, as online news sources increase in number -- by using news aggregators. These rely on RSS/RDF feeds. Artman currently uses an HTML/Java feed, which should by no means end as this is a perfectly adequate and simple solution for static HTML website. But it would be good to add an RSS/RDF option.

Here is a resource on RSS/RDF syndication feeds that I have been referred to: http://www.syndic8.com/

Hopefully the team could get on this at some point. My understanding from the various correspondence I've had is that RSS/RDF is an Internet open source standard that will only be increasingly supported.

Re: [Benjamin] RSS Syndicated Content [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Nigel, I think what Ben was driving at is that it should be able to produce a syndicated page in RSS format within the existing Article Manager. Essentially somebody needs to have a go at modifying the template for the webfeed generator so that the output page conforms to the RSS standards.

I've taken a look at the standards and it should be possible.

Obviously this is more and more on our radar these days, and something more formal will be inserted into our development queue, but we've also got mySQL, email notification, subcategories and multiple categories also on our priority list.

We were hoping that someone in the community wanted a crack at this.
