Re: [guitig] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Guitig,

Thanks for your post. :)

If you look a bit further down on the error page, you'll see this:

Quote
Authorization mismatch - please go back and try again. If you have been trying to access a function incorrectly, please use the proper method.

It looks like perhaps the username & password you've provided into the GoForum configuration script might be incorrect.

I hope this helps! :)

Re: [guitig] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi guitig

Thanks for the additional details.

Since goforum works in co-operation with many 3rd party applications it's very difficult for us to determine what the cause of an error is without taking a closer look. It could very well be an incompatibility with the forum software and not a problem with gofourm.

Goforum is a free add-on, which means we can't provide free support for add-ons while still maintaining outstanding support for paid applications.

So without taking a closer look I really wouldn't be able to tell what the cause of the error would be. We do have a paid installation service though, so if you need us to set it up for you please let me know.

Re: [Cliff] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Cliff,

How much does it cost to let you install it, so it works?

The option that we could make a 'discuss this article' option was the main reason why we bought Article Manager.

But we are going to install Invision Board again, because we saw in their forum that a similar error 'authorisation mismatch' is very common. We hope we can solve the problem. But if we don't succeed we have to ask for your help. So an indication of the costs is interesting because we are getting nuts.

PS: i already changes the settings so the forum and article manager are on the same domain.

Hi guitig

The installation service is $49 and you can place an order through our Orders Page if you need our help. If you need to place an order, just choose "Additional installations", Qty 1.

Be sure to let us know how the re-install goes.

Re: [guitig] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi guitig!

Great to hear. :)

It's entirely possible that the newer version of Invision doesn't work with GoForum. We're currently not updating GoForum, so any major changes in the structure of a forum could cause it to stop working with GoForum.

However, glad to hear that you've got everything up and running. :)

Not going to be updating GoForum? This is the major factor of why I purchased Article Manager. I have held off doing updates to our boards because we decided to switch from PHPBB to the new Invision Power Board but if GoForum will not be supported I may have to return Article Manager. I have to wonder why I was not informed of this when I paid $49.00 to have GoForum installed a couple months ago. This is a real bummer!

Re: [Ginslinger] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ginsslinger,

We don't know yet if there is a version problem. But we had no troubles with an old version of Invision Board. We are going to try it with the new forum this week. Perhaps we did something wrong.

I hope that evrebody keep forum visitors what there experiences are with Invison Board. If we stop posting when the people of interactivetools say that they don't give support (as Invison board also says) we never can figure out the problem ourselfs. And that's what we want, cause we want to give our customers support without relying on third parties. And we like to 'understand' the software.

The forum is very helpfull with Article Manager, but the ad-ons aren't well discussed.

PS: take a look at the forum of Invision Board www.invisionboard.com A lot of people are complaining that skins and language files don't work in te latest version. So, if you want to use skins, try it before registrating it. We already registerd Invison Board and are regretting that. Our next choice would be PhPBB and an seperate chat application. We choose Invison because they have a chat.

Re: [guitig] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

I have been working with Invision Board (Testing) for about a month now and find the software very easy to use besides the fact that the core features of the software are exactly what we need for our community. The subscription manager is a added feature that will eliminate a lot of extra time I currently spend managing board sponsors. I also like the fact that there is support for the Invision board where PHPBB has only users forums.

I have been using PHPBB2 for about two years now and to be honest have gotten tired of reinstalling mods with every board upgrade. I had purchased a copy of VBulletin but to be quite honest didn't care for there offering. I want a stable product that does what it is supposed to do and I really believe that the VBulletin team is trying to do to much with there product. Way more features than what I need.

The purchase of Article Manager was made because of the interactive nature with forum software. It's a shame that upgrades will no longer be offered for the GoForum addon.

Re: [Ginslinger] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ginslinger,

One mean reason why we purchase Article manger is also the interaction with an forum.

Even when we pay for a stable product, we regret it that we paid if we won't use it. I could have make some fun with the 240 dollars. I also prefer a paid stable product, than a lot of problems with an free script.

But when i read your post i looked up subscription manager, and that's a very interesting tool! I think we try harder to get invision Board running. That's a good ad-on in Invision, though we won't use it next year(s).

We used Ultimate Bulletin Board from infopop for 4 years, but we wan't something else.

Re: [Ginslinger] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ginslinger,

Thanks for your post. :)

We've always tried to make it pretty clear that any of the add-ons are offered as-is without any warranty. As it is, we know that they work with the version that they were programmed for, but we can't guarantee any forward compatibility.

Because GoForum is a free product, we're not able to provide support on it while still maintaining the excellent level of support on our paid products.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. :)

Re: [Donna] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Donna, don't get me wrong as I am very happy with Article Manager and the support I have received, even if I haven't gone live with it yet. My problem is that paying $50.00 to have a program installed (GoForum) when I have to believe that Interactive Tools was aware that it would not be upgrading GoForum when I had this done is not right.

One day the file is available for download from your site, the next it's gone. Now about 3 weeks later it's posted that this will not be offered any longer. I have spent the better part of two months hardcoding templates because we need sub-categories. Now when I am just about ready to launch the site I find out that a major part of the design most likely will not work with the new message boards we have choose to use, or will any upgrades be done that would make it work.

When I started this major upgrade to our site I gave myself a 6 month time period (Started in June) to complete the upgrade so that we could go live by Jan. 1 04. Now I have to re-think the use of this program because a major feature that led to the purchase will no longer be available. I just don't understand!

Re: [Ginslinger] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi there,

Thanks for your post. :)

You misunderstand me a little -- GoForum is still available to anyone who wants it! We send it out via email, rather than having it available for download. Nothing is changing with that, GoForum will continue being available to anyone for the forseeable future.

The only thing is that it will be the same version of GoForum that has been available for the last few months. It won't simply stop working because we're not adding any new features to it -- the only caveat is that it MIGHT not work with future versions of the forum software that it currently supports. However, this has always been the case.

We try to make it as clear as possible that we simply can't support the free add-ons as part of our free support -- which is why we offer the paid installations. To do so would take away from the support we're able to offer. This is another reason why we send the software out personally instead of having it available for download -- we can make it more clear that while the software is available and will work, it doesn't come with any warranty or guarantee or support.

So, the software is still available. It works fine, as it is currently working on your site. That won't change. :)

I hope this helps. :)

Donna

Thanks Donna, I'll try getting this to work on the new version of Invision board. They are going to do a conversion for me in the next week so I hope I can get it to work. Big problem is will it continue to work with future upgrades. Don't really think I want to bet on it.

As always, thanks for your support. It is most appreciated.

I am not using GoForum, but have considered it, thinking that it might be a good way to get people acquainted with our forums.

Have you sounded people out to see if this might be something that they'd be willing to support as a paid add-on or extra feature for Article Manager?

I'm not sure if it supports phpbb, which is the forum that I use, but if it did, I think I'd be willing to pay something for it, especially if it would then be supported as magnificantly as your other paid programs are supported.

Hi magic-ci,

Thank you for the fourm post Smile.

The free script supports phpbb, as long as your Article Manager is 1.28 and above. If not, you can always get a free upgrade here: http://www.interactivetools.com/upgrade/

Request the script through the support Email (support@interactivetools.com) and I would be happy to send the script to you.

The development team is aware of the request for a paid forum add-on and is looking into it. While I cannot guarantee anything, hopefully such a script will be available soon.

If you have other questions please don't hesitate to ask Smile.

Nope, have not been able to get it to work with the new version of Invision. Gave up on it. This is third piece of software I have purchased that has done the same thing. Spent $300.00 on the software + $50.00 to get GoForums to work with PHPBB but won't spend anymore getting it work with Invision. Not blaming Interactive tools as they have been great with support for AM. Just getting real tired of vendors not making things backwards compatible (Invision).

Ginslinger, what version of Invision Board were you trying to use and had no sucess. I have version 1.2, I was hoping I could use their add-on, even if I had to pay for them to install it...

thanks,
mike

1.3 Final. I may pay to have it altered once the new version of Invision is released. 2.0 I think is the next release which looks like it may go beta soon. GoForum will work with 1.2.

Re: [Ginslinger] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

The problem I'm having with goforum and Invision Board seems more straightforward, and I hope you can help. It was working fine, and I've done no upgrades and no code changes, yet for some reason it broke. I'm now getting this error when "discuss this story" is engaged:

INI_Load : The ini file '/cgi-bin/artman/exec/goforum.config.cgi' could not be found!

A simple path issue? Yet the goforum.config.cgi is right where it says it's looking for it. Any ideas would be welcome.

thanks

Re: [kestrel] Problem GoForum - Invision Board [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Kestrel,

Thanks for the forum post Smile.

Goforum is a free unsupported script, so I won't be able to support it like our paid products. Having said that, you may want to check the following:

- Permissions. Is goforum.config.cgi given the right permissions? Try chmod 755 or 777 to see that if makes a difference.
- Pathing issue. To make sure your path is correct, try typing your domain name, then the path info on the browser. See if you access the file that way. If it says file not found, then it's probably an invalid path. If not, then it's something else.

Hope what I suggested helps.

Hi -
Did people have any luck in sorting this one out? I'm having trouble getting the script to work with version 1.3 of the forum software.

Eric or others - what would be the chances of paying a consultancy fee for getting it working, if there's not a current solution?

Regards, Steve.
