Newsbar ticker
Can't Post
Hey, I'm doing a revamp of the website at the moment and I was wondering if someone managed to put the syndicated news in a newsbar ticker ala CNN or FOX News have on their TV channels. I went to dynamicdrive.com to search for tickers and it seems they're loaded with them but I'm a complete idiot when it comes to editing or implementing scripts with each other. The idea is to add the newsbar ticker scrolling from left to right at the very top of the page for the full width of the screen. Like that I can save some space on the front page and have this cool ticker goin on! :) Any ideas? Thanks, Colin Wrestling-Online.com

yep, interesting. That should be fairly simple to do, using headlines_.php (or shtml). That will come scrolling like that: your first headlines...your second one...and so forth... I could try if anyone is interested. But I am under the impression that most users here do not use php. And that is what I know (a little). The idea is to grab those headlines, reformat them so they replace all the break tags and excess html into ... as separator, then write them into a ticker.txt that the ticker reads from. The only catch is that you might have to either set a cron job or manually run that script with a click every time you update the news. Interactivetools do not allow to mess up with the scripts, so that could not be automated at article posting. Hidden categories, of course, will not display.

http://www.haitiwebs.com/magazine/ticker.shtml that one here is not quite a scroller, but will work out of the box using a tiny modication in template headlines_. and no need to ever worry about it. You publish, the ticker changes automatically. if... we can think of a way to increment the article numbers starting from 0 as in content0 content1 content2. It will not use the article ID as they are not necessarily in order.

This is what you guys have been looking for. I asked the question in another post: if AM allows to publish one file with a different extension, then all is fine, otherwise I could write up a quick routine to automate the rename of the file into xml. this ticker is flash, is highly configurable in the way you want it displayed and cost around 39.00. Anyone interested that badly would have to buy me a copy for further development :-) http://www.haitiwebs.com/magazine/tick.htm
