Add-on: Calendar popup to view articles by date.

Hi everyone, After surfing the web, I came across a rather attractive javascript calendar: http://64.246.32.44/~admin59/index.htm What's particularly attractive about it was that the author makes it entirely freeware, so I was able to use his code without fear of large men in suits hunting me down and suing me. I've sent him a big thankyou for the use of his code. Attached to this post is his calendar which I've edited for integration with Article Manager. Basically, it's a simple popup window which appears when you click a "Browse Articles by Date" button. Then, for whatever date you pick, it automatically queries the search engine and retrieves all articles for that date. Drawbacks: the popup window only runs in IE 6 & Netscape 6. (Maybe IE 5.5, I'm not sure). If anyone chooses to try this out, please post me back with any bugs you come across - and maybe with a link to it! It would be nice to see it in action! :-) A little info on the zipfile contents: popupcalendar.js - the edited calendar javascript *.gif - assorted images. test_page.html - a demonstration page showing how to use the calendar in a webpage. [ Note: you'll need to change the action attribute of the form to point to your search.cgi script in order to make this work. ] Have fun! Ben interactivetools.com

Hah :-) Yes, I figured it was a logical extension of the previous post for having "today's articles" link. If you get it going on your site, do post the link! I'd be most curious to see it in action. Plus, I think I'll edit the test_page for a few more "search by" formats. I figure these three might be useful: 1. Search article on THIS date................. +/- N days. (Where N is a dropdown with value 1-10). 2. Search articles between date A and date B. (with each date being populated by a calendar) 3. the Calendar embedded right in the page instead of a popup. Is there a way to incorporate a calendar such as this into Article Manager? I would like to set Artman up in such a way that all articles posted to an 'Event' Category would automatically be listed in a calendar.

Hi, Thanks for the post! Although having your articles appear in a calendar is an interesting idea it's not actually something that is set up to work with Article Manager. With Article Manager you are able to customize the templates for each specific category so you may be able to modify the category index page for your Events category to list all of your articles in that category. If you added the date right into the name of the article you'd still have an organized list where all of the articles that are on the same day would be grouped together. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to let me know! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
