Re-inventing meta search engines

Why wouldn’t the most relevant results of several of the best engines not be more relevant than a single - even the best - engine? Can anyone put some light on that question?
The only plausible explanations I can come up with are the following:
1) Poor execution in ranking the results from crawlers (Google, FAST, Altavista, Teoma, ...)
2) Poor user experience not reflecting the difference that a meta search engine brings to users in terms of aggregating results?
3) Cluttered user experience including too many non-relevant CPC links.

I'm just looking for some clarification. Are you talking abour search engines in general, or our Search Engine product specifically? If you could post and let me know, I would be glad to help you find an answer.

Oh, I am talking about meta search engines in general: Mamma, Vivissimo, Dogpile, ...

Since your question isn't really about our Search Engine product, I think that this post would be best suited in the General section, so I'm going to move the thread over there.
