List server software. Truthfully, I'm not a guru when it comes to good list server software, but a member of the Interactivetools community wrote me to inquire. I couldn't answer the question, so I'm turning to all you webmasters out there. What do you think?? The key feature we're looking for is the ability to archive moderator/list owner emails. If you know any software out there that fits the bill, fire off a post and let me know. James Richardson Marketing Manager

Hi James, Many of the mailing lists out there are using a combination of Majordomo/Majorcool. It seems to be the most popular. Another is EZMLM. Majordomo works well with all MTAs, but I think EZMLM is a qmail list server.

Hey Cliff, Wuzzaaaaaap?? I have a client that posts a periodic newsletter we've dubbed "dMail". AM has a built-in email notification feature. Would it be at all possible to integrate a MailList server add-on to AM. The purpose would be to have all the members of the MailList get a formatted email with a link back to the specific AM category. This would streamline a rather cumbersome set of tasks currently required for this particular type of information. It would seem to be a somewhat simple change in some of the admin templates to create a "Email Members Addresses" text area under Category Editor. emails@whoever.com could be separated by a ; and copied from a current WAB or PAB file. I understand that this would not have all those cool automated opt-in and opt-out features of "real" mailLists, but it would help for smaller lists up to a thousand or so. Let me know if I'm onto something here. Thanks Stan StanTheMan

Hey Stan, Good to hear from you. While something like the setup you have described isn't possible at the moment, the concept certainly has been discussed as a future enhancement for Article Manager. The main drawback at the moment is not having the ability to extensivly format that email that goes out as a notification. I'll make sure the developement team takes a look at your suggestion! Thank Dan, I've gotten some progress using MajorDomo, but I did download the .tar for Dada. MajorDomo is supposed to have massive support and documentation.. so why am I still wondering how to get an opt-in/opt-out page made? Hmmmm. I KNOW......... nobody has posted a support site with examples. I don't mind putting in the time, and I recognize the need for security to prevent spammers for taking over the universe, but the support docs I found for Dada are already more thorough than MajorDomo, which has been out for years. Thanks for the tip. If my MD initiative dies, I'll be onto Dada and save my clients some money and myself some headaches. Stan StanTheMan

Yeah, MajorDomo's the grand-daddy, but sometimes it's nicer to have something a little more user-friendly. Dan Horne Redbone Systems Ltd http://www.redbone.co.nz
