Hi Everyone, I am new to the forum. I am starting a Web Design company but have no funds to advertise and get contacts. Right now all I have is my labour power.. Do any of you know of good ways to get a web design company going? I am open to any ideas and tips Right now I do basic web design projects for under $1000. I think I am going to specialize in the low budget jobs that the the big firms don't want to touch. So if you are a big firm, email me and I will send you the big jobs beyond my scope and you send me the little ones.. I am also available to do subcontracting if any of you have too much work. How come you list interactivetools.com as one of your clients?

Gavin is a friend of the company and, as he stated, new to web design and the whole process. :) He's working on a graphic for us, but perhaps jumped the gun in adding our name to his list. All things considered, I think he's learning fast with the classic "trial by fire" methodology. : ) Dave Edis - Senior Developer interactivetools.com

Hi Gavin, Best of luck on starting up your new business. If you are looking for low/no cost ways to get advertising and at the same time build your portfolio, contact your local area non-profit/charitable/civic organizations. Most of the time organizations are looking for ways to cut their costs and are usually open to a barter type situation. Target those organizations who produce printed material or shows or events that get a lot of exposure. Trade off a website development job for advertising in their publication, or a listing as a sponsor, or a free booth at an exhibit they may be hosting or all of the above. Organizations have to make their money through their marketing efforts. If you can assist their marketing efforts with a new website or site re-design, they are usually more than generous in helping market your business in their marketing materials. Also remember, that lots of times the board members and directors of these organizations are also influential people in the community who have business of their own or who can recommend your company to other businesses or organizations. you aren't just doing business with the organization but with everyone who makes up that organization. If you can afford it, join your local Chamber of Commerce and become and active member. The Chamber is there promoting business and all the other members will be local businesses. The more business people you can make contact with the better! Another low cost way to get networked and advertise is to join a local Business Network International (BNI - http://www.bni.com) chapter. These are organizations of businesses whose main purpose is to promote the business of the other group members through referrals. Most BNI members are small business owners like yourself. With you targeting the smaller sites, this would be a great match for your services. And you can also use the barter method here if another member can provide you with good and services for your business. And if you can name drop the company where your relatives work, do it! __________________________________ InternetOne.net
