What about co-location for a 1u server. Canada prefered. Looking for best service, not best price.

www.patchworkmedia.co.uk is a good host. They are a small business in the UK, which means that if you want good support it's brilliant because they have less clients to deal with than a big host. It's affordable too and it has everything you need - plus if you want extras you can simply pay for them to be added. Our website at www.informer.org.uk is hosted with them..... We tried a few hosts in the past, mostly low budget dedicated ones like Rackshack, now EV1. Not too bad but zero support, really for folks who know their server admin backwards. Run our own sites and host about 15 others, from small to medium large. Currently with Servint. Been with them about 2 years. They are not the cheapest hsot by a long way. However, they do own their own datacenter, provide real 24 hours mail and phone support, manage the servers and very helpful. EG Last month they waived a $800 bandwidth overage due to hotlinkers. :-) We used to be on one P2.4 with a 10mb/s line burstable to 100, really we were paying for 10mb/ps and paying an extra $100 for each mb/s over at the end of the month, worked out 95%ile. Roughly about 2500gb a month. Now on reduced bandwidth plan, at a fixed 1600gb per month at $1 per gb over. This is only $750 a month compared with the $1250 for the previous. Plus we now have two servers, the old one for http and a duel xeon, 2gb, twin scsi for serving our databases. They have been flexible with our need to reduce bandwidth and increase power. Due to one very busy site slowing down and a new database heavy site coming online. So really good value for what you get and very very reliable. They also have smaller vps plans. Do not be put off by their slightly old website. This is an amazing company, cannot praise them enough. Great if your site is mission critical as it were. http://www.servint.net/ They sometimes do deals and published prices can be negotiated I think. I also recommend searching this forum for any info on a specific host:http://webhostingtalk.com Stay away from anyone offering anything unlimited. Its a bad sign when you see that phrase. :-) Don't over buy, overselling is the standard hosting business model. If you really use what some hosts sell you, they soon are not too happy. Do a lot of research. James

www.reliablehosting.com I'm running an online community with free homepages, forums, chats, blogs, clubs and loads more, a personals site, a directory site, two magazine sites (Article Manager) and a couple of personal sites as well as a mail server and an ad network on a subdomain running tomcat my dedicated server hasn't even as much as hiccupped in four years I moved from verio, then hosting.com to them (they had a nasty habit of changing the permissions on my scripts on a nightly basis) and have not had any (hosting induced) headaches since I get immediate live person tech support (toll free I might add) when needed, and they handle all of my more intricate installations/upgrades etc as part of my managed service

Hello to fellow Europeans I'm using http://www.1and1.co.uk. They're based in Germany, are ludicrously cheap, have 24/7 support and keep adding to the services included - without putting up the prices! (Hard to believe, I know). The only time they become less-than-great is when you want to cancel - but I've found that with every host so far. 1and1 wins my best value vote by a long way. I used to be with http://www.zen.co.uk who, I have to say, are perfect. They're also expensive. I decided I prefer "very good" at half the price, and I'll be sticking with 1and1. But, when I'm a filthy-rich Web magnate (some time next year ), I'll go back to Zen. Happy holidays, everybody! Cherry

I am in Europe too! However, I recommend a hosting provider in the US... I posted on this thread a year ago, and so I have thought it would be good to provide an update. I would continue to recommend highly InMotion Hosting, http://www.inmotionhosting.com/. I have now four of my websites hosted with them, and I can really say that there was very rarely downtime (and if it happened, it was always only a very short break), excellent and personal service in those few cases when I had to ask something from them, and reasonable price ($7.95 per month for 30 GB transfer). More than one year of experience with them, four websites, no complaint at all. And most comments on forums are positive. In case you want a hosting service with servers in my native Switzerland, Infomaniak http://www.infomaniak.ch would be a good choice - I have one of my websites with them. It is good, solid, sligthly more expensive (180 Swiss Francs per year, but 80 GB monthly traffic, 1,200 e-mail accounts...). Never any problem with them. But what has made me hesitant to put more websites with them is that their support doesn't reply on week-ends (they have an alert system in case something goes wrong, but nobody reads support requests on Saturday and Sunday). Otherwise good and reliable. I hope this helps!

I've had nothing but positive experiences with EarthLink Web Hosting at www.earthlink.net I have at least 4 Web sites on their servers... 3 of which have interactivetools.com's Search Engine product. It was a breeze to set-up. Aaron ======================== Aaron Weiler Producer/Director www.aaronweiler.com

Depends on what type of service you're looking for. I have a dedicated server with Burton Hosting (www.burtonhosting.com), and have been with them for over a year now. I've had almost no problems at all and their service is impeccible (sp?). They have servers in the UK and the US. They have multiple connections to the internet, and most of their locations are usually in a large metropolitan area right off the backbone. My server is in Atlanta, one hop away from the backbone. Web HSP are wonderful. I've been up and down with hosts, and was about to throw my server off a cliff along with the people who previously had it, but Web HSP bought it in the nick of time and I've been thankful ever since. Super speedy, friendly support staff, and the owners are right there with them with sleeves rolled up and utterly fantastic communication. I have a reseller account there and all my clients have their own full-featured Cpanels, and I have a Web Host Manager to set up accounts however I see fit. I'm no server techie, but this setup has been so easy for me, and the staff takes rapid care of anything my ignorance can't deal with Listings Manager runs perfectly there, and they recently did a new install of ImageMagick just for me when my LM thumbnails didn't look good enough to me. 10 minutes after I asked if they could check on the version, they cheerfully changed the whole thing. Love those guys and I'm glad to have the chance to give them well-deserved public credit :) http://www.webhsp.com/

After switching webhosting about 5 times in one year, I found www.liquidweb.com in 2001 and have been with them ever since. They have some great packages for whatever your needs are. I supply hosting for various artists as well as some country clubs and radio stations as well as my own websites and need reliable hosting. I have a virtual dedicated server with 20 GB space, unlimited websites, 200GB bandwidth and $60 US a month. They also have great 24/7 support. Just moved all my sites to United Hosting - fantastic price, excellent support and highly recommended by all users on their forums. I took out a reseller account which I can use as I like to host upto 50 websites with 5,000 mb webspace, 50 gb bandwidth per month, 500 mailboxes they provide mysql, php, cgi, ssi, ssh access. Ensim software to manitain the back end of your websites from one control panel. and a ton of other stuff - all for £28 per month. They also provide a free enom account so you can resell domains as well. Still looking for the catch - have not found it yet - hoping there is none! www.unitedhosting.co.uk Cliff Definitely concur with this. I'd been with a few before I signed up with United three years ago and they've been superb. Never known support as good as theirs and downtime, etc is virtually non existent.

Hello Lee, Quote - "I've just setup some new space using my own domain (point name servers) with a company http://www.34sp.com, no idea about the background but they are VERY cheap (£15/$23 a year!) and so far things seem good, at the price if it goes down hill ill just move dns to another host." I know that you originally posted a long time ago but I was wondering what your experience with 34sp.com was. What interactive tools product were/are you running? I have a client using Listings Manager with about 700 listings and the current host locked us out of the account because the search.cgi script was apparently overloading the system. Looking forward to your reply. Regards, Annie

I would recommend my webhost. I have been with them for more than 4 years and is still hosting my site with them. They are very responsive to all my support questions. I seldom run into any problem and server uptime is very good. After all, they have been in the hosting business since 2001. I would say their service is reliable and come highly recommended. Check them out at http://www.mxhub.com . Roly paradise~ :)
