Major news site redesigns for all CSS, no tables Can't Post

We were talking a while back about what browsers to support. I found it pretty interesting to see that wired news (www.wired.com) has done a complete redesign of their site based around CSS and web standards. Not one <table> tag!

It looks great in modern browsers, and still works in older browsers, but mostly shows just text. Kind of like what tables looked like in browsers that don't support tables (a long time ago). Take it a look, what do you think, are they smart, crazy or somewhere in between?

Here's their reasoning: http://www.wired.com/news/explanation.html

If you have Netscape 4 or an older browser, try viewing the main page in it. It looks totally different. And you get this friendly message:

Note: Wired News content is accessible to all versions of every browser. However, this browser may not support basic Web standards, preventing the display of our site's design details. We support the mission of the Web Standards Project in the campaign encouraging users to upgrade their browsers. (Read More)

And here's an interview with the designer, Doglas Bowman, about the switchover:

Interesting reading.
