subcategories and monthly archieve

hi we are very interested in having the article manager to manage our magazine but we're waiting for an update that allows as to keep our 20 categories + subcategories + monthly archieve we've learned that these options are in your to do list so do we expect it any time soon ? or can you offer any Customization other than this? -------------------------------------------------------- Although Article Manager doesn't currently support sub-categories, what you can do is hard code your sub-categories. This is done by creating your own top level category page (e.g. sports.html) and having links to all of the individual sub-categories in this page. (e.g. links to Hockey, Baseball, Tennis, etc) What many of our clients have done for archiving is they create an additional category named after the month (e.g. they'll create a category called May) they'll then move all articles published in the month of May over to this category. -------------------------------------------------------- we thought of reinstalling article manager for each edition but is that ok with one license? regards

so do we expect it any time soon ? Additional features for Article Manager haven't been finalized at this time. Any new software releases or features will be announced in our newsletter. can you offer any Customization other than this? We no longer offer custom programming services. When new features are added to the program, we like to add them to the upgrades and make them available to all of our customers. we thought of reinstalling article manager for each edition but is that ok with one license? For each installation of Article Manager you will need a separate license. Thanks for your questions and comments. :) Luke Holzken Product Development

Hey dana, not sure if this will help any....... What i've done in the past is, once it comes to the next month or a new issue, download the whole of the '/publish/' dir. to your hard disk. Create a new dir. on the server, eg. '/archive/may2002/'. Search and replace on all links throughout the html files on your hard disk so e.g., '/artman/publish/article_117.shtml' becomes '/archive/may2002/article_117.shtml'. Upload the new html files to the '/archive/may2002/' dir. on server. You can then hardcode a link to this new archive wherever you need it.

No, just the current issue :( However, there are quite a few cgi/perl based search programs, alot which are free. You specify which dir. it searches and/or indexes. To finish, create a generic search our archive page :)

This works well because Article Manager publishes HTML pages - it doesn't produce pages dynamically when people look at them. That's good because it's easier on the webserver, and the pages are indexed by Internet search engines, like Google. We have a product called Search Engine which you could use as a search utility for your entire site. You could disable the built in search option with Article Manager (just don't put the search form on any template, and users won't know it's there). Here's a link to Search Engine ($49): http://www.interactivetools.com/products/searchengine/ If you're looking for free, I know Google has a service that lets you offer their search engine on your website (obviously in exchange for promotion, ads, branding, etc.) http://www.google.com/services/free.html Fraser Cain - Product Manager interactivetools.com, inc. Hah! :-) Don't worry, we know there's a whole world out there filled with scripts of varying prices and quality. Not everything on your site has to be built using our software. Well, until we get the laws changed anyway. ;-) Fraser Cain - Product Manager interactivetools.com, inc.
