portal manager Can't Post

i would be interested in a software which would include AM, but would also allow to provide more features needed for a portal/community like chat, ability for users to send sms (short messaging service, tiny "emails" which where once thought for mobile to mobile only, but meanwhile billions of them get sended every year in europe also from internet to mobile), templates of additional databased services like "love@lycos" where one can date people/find a mate, and an integrated banner management software etc. being able to control the most prominent emailserverprograms, messageboards (like the ones from gossamer) etc. from 3rd party vendors would be necessary!

Re: [synergy] portal manager [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for your suggestions. There are a lot of separate features here. Do you think they're all necessary for today's portal? A lot of these features look like they'd be useful on almost any site.

We've had suggestions to develop a portal package in the past, but some of your recommendations are new. We'll add them to the list. :-)

yes, definitly!
but i guess you have most of the stuff needed already at hand.
afaik, basically it is just about one or more databases with different templates-you could for example throw-in your auto- and other managers.
i'm not a techie, but i guess the toughest problem might be speed-the program has to be fast that it could handle some million hits per months on an single affordable server (max. dual processor with 512-1 gb memory).
if the community would grow, the different modules need to be able to get distributed painlessly among several servers while still being able to get administrated with one log-on.

i really like your products, the prices and the friendly prompt service you provide, but i suggest that you should pursue a more modular approach especially with AM, means you have a basic product and some add-ons/plugs either made by yourself or by 3rd party vendors, which should integrate seamlessly therefore being able to get administrated from one interface only (like gossamer is doing with adserver).
you already seem to realize that as i could see in the am-forum.
i posted that before, but there's one competitor who is extremely sucessfull in doing so having some very nice ideas:

http://english.webedition.de/int/index.php

maybe also try their demo.

so why am i not buying their stuff-their integrated solution with the features i need does cost more than if i would buy them seperatly, and i also heard that their program is slow.
i pursue a project where's no need to rush, so i basically sit back and wait which company finally will have the better product!

kind regards.

Re: [synergy] portal manager [In reply to] Can't Post

Article Manager publishes static HTML document, so the performance of the server will decide how fast the site functions under a lot of traffic. A million hits a month isn't that much of a performance problem, though.

I like the idea of modular components. A great example of this is the htmlArea WYSIWYG editor we just built. We incorporated it into Article Manager, but anyone can incorporate it into any software product out there.

cool.

what i would like to see in a portal manager:
- cms (am)
- messageboard
- chat
- sms
- banner management system
- possiblity for users to sell or buy used things
- possibility to date people
- communities (messageboards created by user themselves where they have the administrationrights)
- mailsystem for users
- possibility for multiple languages
- one interface for all functions
- one users identity to access/use all options and interaction, means when a user gets an answer on a thread on a messageboard he'll get a notification by mail, when someone wants to buy an item that a user has put on the website, he'll get a notification also etc.
- possibility to distribute the different options on different servers (loadbalancing)

if more things come into mind, i will post them.

so do you have concrete plans to do such in the forseeable future?

i hope so!

We've had requests for a community/portal management software in the past, but honestly, it's a pretty complex job. We've got it on our list of possible future projects, but no concrete plans to develop anything today.

Re: [fraser_itools] portal manager [In reply to] Can't Post

You guys definately have some of the best service going. I just contacted my message board service after I jacked up the board... and they told me they WOULD not help because I was using help from another source... but if they had the option I wanted from the beginning I would not have the problem!

MY SUGGESTIONS (based on the comment before):

- messageboard
- chat
- sms
- banner management system
- mail system for users
- possibility for multiple languages
- one interface for all functions
- one users identity to access/use all options and interaction, means when a user can request to be notified to an answer on a thread on a messageboard
- MESSAGEBOARD

A community portal would be a fantastic idea.... but I'm sure you will all have you hands full with this *TOP SECRET* product that you intend to develop in the near future...
