Template Path Field and Auto-Update Feature

Any chance you could incorporate a field path for the template files. It would be nice to be able to go into the admin section and change the value for the templates. This way instead of having to reupload the html files into the template folder, I could create dozens of templates and then just change the path to a single directory location. Additionally, it would be nice to maybe have an option of adding several template fields with a date variable so the system would automatically update to the specified template path and then republish on a specified date. This would allow me as an SEO to keep a step ahead of the search engines in anticipation of the algorithm changes. Additionally, it would allow me to create seasonal templates that would kick in at a particular time of the year. I invision having upwards of twelve template fields would be perfect. This would allow me to have a template for each month which would autoupdate to the specified template on the specified date. What do you think? Is there a way to do this now? Frank, Thanks for the ideas. It depends what product you're working on. Listings Manager already has a field for the Templates directory. A programmer could probably script an add-on that would run on a cron job to change that value at certain dates. Article Manager (and all our other products, if I recall correctly) looks for the template directory in the same folder that contains the exec directory. Since there is no functionality to support this, if this were my project I'd create additional folders like templates_01/, templates_02/ corresponding to the months (and make sure that those folders contain ALL the templates, including the interface/ folder). Then when I wanted to flip, I'd change the templates/ folder to templates_## (whatever the passing month is), then change the current month's folder name to templates/. Log in to Artman, publish-all, and that's it. A clever server admin might even be able to create a routine that would automate the renaming of folders on a schedule. At any rate, I appreciate the feature suggestion and I'll add it to our request list. :) Theo Wiersma Project Manager
