Target Word Count

Hi all, Just thought to ask you for a couple of other features we are currently using on our own Filemaker database, that's a 'target wordcount' and a 'Current Word Count', which is a setting that should only be available to an Editor or Administrator. The key for using such a feature is mainly to try and give people writing text some sort of guidelines as for size. This may only be relevant if the article to be published actually relates to printed versions where there is usually some restriction on space.... Let me know if thats a easily doable' feature... Cheers

Hey Chris, I could see having an option to set a limit to article word or character counts for articles would be useful but one consideration is that it may limit writers that want to enter in HTML into the content box along with their article text. As far as being easily doable, my non-programmer technical answer is: I'm not really sure. :) My one thought is that you can let all your "Trusted Writers" and "Editors" know what the guidelines are for article sizes. If a writer has trouble keeping articles within the guidelines, their access level might then be changed to "Writer" level so that their articles won't automatically go live but will need to be approved first. Thanks for your suggestion, I have added it to our feature request list. Cheers Damon Edis interactivetools.com

Thanks Damon, You made a good point about the HTML side of things... I will look into using one of the custom fields for that purpose in the meantime.

I'm sure there are several ways we could implement some kind of feature that limited the number of words a writer was allowed to input into a field. It could be Javascript on the client side, or through the software itself. But I think I agree with Damon, it can be handled now through policy. I'll add it to the requested feature list, though. :-) Fraser Cain - Product Manager interactivetools.com, inc.
