Suggestion: Remembering Authors

A nice feature of a future version of AM would be the ability for it to remember authors. Say, any author that has been manually entered in the past and/or an author that has acess to post articles would appear on a pop down list under the "Author" Section on the Article Editor. So it would look something like this: Author [Drop Down List] or _________________________ (Fill in the name) Bryan Gilchrist

Hi Bryan! Thanks for your post. :) That's definitely an idea, but it would have to be optional, since it could be considered a security risk to have the usernames of all of the users published on the site. However, I'll add it to our requested features list. :) What I usually use is the built in username/password saving in Internet Explorer. Not a good solution for shared computers, but it works well for me. :) Donna

It wouldnt be for logging in. It would be used on the Create Article portion of the Admin panel. Only the authors names would be saved there. So, instead of typing the authors name in every time, it would give the user the option to select the authors name or enter one if it doesnt exist yet. Perhaps it could be a feature that's only available to Administrators...And if it's a user of a lower level (Trusted Writer, Writer, etc), only their name would show up. As of right now, a "writer" can put anything in the Authors spot. Bryan Gilchrist

Shouldnt the Author field get pre-filled automatically by using the login details of the person who is using Article Manager - with the ability to alter if necessary. Could even be fixed for low level users and only editable by higher level users. Just a suggestion! Fazzer

I disagree with that... you might want that as an option, but there are plenty of times when the person putting the information into the artile is NOT the author of the article. We would, however, want to ensure that we're giving proper credit to the original author. However, I do agree that thiswould be nice. It's certainly not a priority for me like the multiple categories functionality (it's only been a year and a half that I've inquired about that) or database connectivity, but it would be a nice function.
