I don't know if this is feasible due to being platform dependent, but a nice feature would be to allow the option of password protecting categories in Article Manager.. I have a client now that wants to do this for client documents, and it would be so easy to just use AM since it will already be used for the main site.

Hi, Thanks for the post! While this wouldn't actually be a feature of Article Manager itself, there is a way you can set this up on your site. Because Article Manager has the ability to publish it's categories to different directories on the server you could just set up some sort or password protection script on the server that will password protect those folders. This way, Article Manager can publish it's content to those folders and visitors to the site will be required to sign in to view that content. As for specific scripts, you should be able to have a look at something like http://www.hotscripts.com to see if you can track something down that will allow you to password protect folders on the server. This may also be some functionality that your hosting company provides themselves. I hope this helps! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

And that's what I'm doing. But I like to be efficient. It makes to build it in. Then I don't have 2 separate systems for my client to manage.

I don't know how simple or advanced you need this to be, but another option would be to create .htaccess and .htpasswd files to password protect the folder. You can google htaccess and htpasswd to find out more. And there is a site that will generate those files for you here: http://www.htaccesseditor.com/en.shtml#a_basic This works on most servers but not Windows. You'll have to check if it's supported on your server. Hope that helps! Dave Edis - Senior Developer interactivetools.com

The link I posted is not web-based. In fact, what I found is that for IIS users the only option is to use Windows authentication. You can't do web-based, at least not that I found. Fortunately, my client is willing to switch to Apache on Windows, and I found this script: http://www.directorypass.com/ And it's free! And it works on any Apache system; Windows, Unix, Linux etc. Looks very easy to use. Functions just how I would have created it.
