New Product: Help 1.0

ARGH! My post was erased after mistakenly pressing back while writing it, so I will write it shortly and come back later to explain it thoroughly. The product is simple: It pops up a window displaying a specific help. (the perfect example is article manager's "image placeholder" help which only displays your target help.) The trick here is: having it be administered like all your programs and it be completely template-driven. The user would log in, click "create new", enter help info, "helpname" and press save. He would be taken to a "Successfull" page where the "script include" (what goes inside the "head" area) and the "link anchor ref" (to open the popup) would be displayed to make it easy for non-technical users. There should be 3 types of user: Disabled, User, Admin (the admin can lock helps so they are not deleted by other users mistakenly or deliberately). It would be nice if the interface was customizable. A nice detail to add would be a helplog where every creatio, modificatio or deletion would be included along with the original help and the new help, so it can be restored back... The admin would backup this file in his PC every now and then (renaming it to helplog21sep02.txt for example) pressing "cleanse helplog" in the advanced options area. If a help is deleted, a temporary "Help deleted" help would be displayed for say... 1 week while the admin changes the link in the templates to remove that helplink. It would be nice to add a reminder when deleting helps to remove that link. The price would be around "Search" or cheaper because of its simplicity. Sorry if I rushed you through it, but I had already spent more than an hour writing a FULL explanation of the program and it was deleted. Thanks for your time, Eugenio B (ecamty.net) Here to help! =================== Eugenio B. www.ecamty.net itools@ecamty.net ===================

Hi Eugenio, Thanks for the all the details you put together for your Help 1.0 software suggestion. Especially since you wrote it once and lost the post. The back button has caused me to lose a post or two as well. Now I write my post in a text editor and copy and paste them when I'm done. A customizable help is a great idea. I was thinking that instead of having to work with additional templates, another possibility would be to set multiple help URLs in the Setup Options for each section of the Article Manager (Create Article, Article Editor, Category Editor etc). For example, if you are in the Article Editor you could click the help button and a new window would open to a web page that included help on that area. Just an idea of was thinking about that I wanted to share. :) You have given us a lot of details to review and consider. Thanks again for spending the time to put your suggestion together. It would be a nice idea to add multiple help urls to each of the artman categories, and its a great example of the idea, however you cannot market the help archiver separately. Another Idea, however, could be making it a patch to IT's programs: an add-on, if you will, so you could use it on other proyects. Well, im really down on creativity today so I cant give you much input. Eugenio Here to help! =================== Eugenio B. www.ecamty.net itools@ecamty.net ===================
