NM - Add an RSS news feed

I have been reading that the new Microsoft Vista system is going to let all users detect RSS feeds on every site they visit and be able to subscribe to them. If this is the way the web is going to go it would seem that News Manager would be perfect for using as a blog or similar. However, the need to be able to set up a feed seems like it's going to be imperative in the near future or else people will have to go elsewhere. I really like Interactive Tools products and would like this feature to be considered. I see that AM allows the setup of a feed but not everyone wants AM and the setup procedure seems quite complicated too. Please could it be incorporated into NM and be mush easier to implement? I find all this blog and syndicating stuff pretty hard to understand.

Hi Annie. Thanks for posting! RSS feeds are definitely a popular thing these days and it’s something we have already added to the feature request list for News Manager. The biggest thing right now is that News Manager is setup to create a single index of your articles. As it stands right now, I could actually show you how to have News Manager create an RSS feed, however, you would only get the RSS feed and not the regular index as well. If that sounds ok, let me know and I’ll put together a template for you. Getting it going won’t be technical at all and you should only need to upload my sample template to get it going. Let me know what you think . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Thanks for the reply Ross. I am interested but I'm not quite understanding 'you would only get the RSS feed and not the regular index as well'. Could you clarify please and perhaps show me how this is done. Kind regards, Annie

Hi again Annie. Thanks for getting back in touch . By default, News Manager is going to create you a normal html page that has links to all your articles on it. This page will be like any other html page and will be easy to read by visitors to your site right in their usual web browser. What I was letting you know is that if you make the changes I will walk you through, the index page would become your RSS page and only readable through an RSS reader. Basically, News Manager, right now, is only setup to have one index page so you can have either the usual html index, or an RSS page. Does that make anymore sense? Let me know what you think . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hi Ross, Sorry I haven't replied before now. I wouldn't want to lose the html page in order to gain the RSS so I guess I'll have to shelve this idea for the moment and hope that a future release of the program might incorporate both.
