LDAP authentication

This might be a bit above and beyond what many users would find useful, but I'd really love to see a way to authenticate users via LDAP (such that I could, for instance, have my users log in to artman, etc. with their MS Exchange user/pass)
If not LDAP within artman/etc, it would be super cool if I could somehow replace/rip out the authentication mechanism and use standard .htaccess-type controls; that way I could easily use mod_auth_ldap & friends to authenticate users.
Just a thought. My users would love it, and so would I -- less user administration and fewer logins to remember in total..
