Content Management System

Re: What should we work on next? Hello Interactivetools, For three years we have worked with three Page Publishers and only recently put into play a 300 page template-driven website. Originally we thought we should install a Content Management System then the customer decided he wanted something less arduous then he changed his mind so we traneferred one of our PP licences to him. Now I believe the customer is better suited to a CMS as he now wants unlimited ability to create new "pages" but, too late, we uploaded 200 blank templates to PP. My question is this: given the intimate grasp you demonstrate working .cgi - will you consider developing a CMS that creates new "pages" by writing to a database. Already your Forum writes new entries and 'reads' certain words. Why interactivetools and a CMS? Because you make things simple for end-user customers who, in the main, want straightforward solutions. An interactivetools 'cms' could provide that simplicity and could be priced at, say, GBP£120. Hi Richard! We actually didn't create the forum software, it's made by another company. However, you're right -- we are pretty darn good at making great CMS software and in fact already have something pretty much exactly what you're describing... called Article Manager. :) Take a look at the online demo and see if that's close to what you're looking for: http://demo3.interactivetools.com/setup.cgi?demo=artman_demo Donna

Hello Donna, Re: "something pretty much exactly what you're describing" Thank you. Q1: We build the normal website and (simply) strip in tags similar to PP, yes? <!-- templateDebugMode: start template: articleLists/globalIndex.html - templateCell: articleRow --> content <!-- /templateDebugMode: etc --> Q2: When creating a Category, will it be positioned where we want it to be positioned? <!-- templateDebugMode: start template: categoryMenus/categoryMenu.html - templateCell: categoryRow --> content <!-- /templateDebugMode: etc --> Q3: Can we disable the wysiwig editor? Compliments from Richard

Hi Richard, Thanks for the follow-up! Article Manager actually works a bit differently then Page Publisher, with Page publisher your encasing key areas of your page with PML tags these tags make that section editable through Page Publisher. With Article Manager your working with a template set that is re-used each time a new page, article or category is created. Although the process behind Page Publisher and Article Manager are different both are pretty easy to work with. Have you already checked out an online demo Richard? If not I would suggest starting there so that you can get an idea of how the Article Manager admin section works.:) You can create a demo here:http://www.interactivetools.com/products/articlemanager/[/code] Does this help Richard? If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. Cheers, Chet Woodside - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hello Chet, Re: "Have you already checked out an online demo" Yes. The tags cited above appear in page coding from an Article Manager demo yielding this: http://demo3.interactivetools.com/current/artman2/077/33507/publish/. "your working with a template set that is re-used" implies we build the template as a normal website but we still don't know how the management console reads and writes to the template. Re: "If you have any other questions" Can we disable the wysiwig editor? Compliments from Richard

Hi Richard, Thanks for the follow-up! Typically Article Manager users design their website design into Article Manager's template files, when Article Manager publishes new content it will look at these template files and find out ohow each section on the site should be laid out. Article Manager knows what actual content to place where by referencing placeholders in the template file, these placeholders tell the software what content it's publishing and which category/categories it belongs to. Your actual Article Manager content is stored in a database (either MySQL or Flatfile). :) The WYSIWYG editor is enabled by default however it is very easy to disable the WYSIWYG editor if you don't want to use it. Does this help Richard? If you need a hand with anything else please feel free to ask! Cheers, Chet Woodside - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

The main feature that I'd like to see is the ability to revert changes with Article Manager. I hope this feature will be implement it soon.
