Article Manager Suggestions

I've been using AM on my site (DVDork.com) for a while now, and being a long-time web-developer I can say that it has cut down the time needed to update and maintain a site considerably. There are of course some things I'd like to see implimented in future versions of AM. 1) Multiple Templates in Article Editor - What I'd like to see is the ability to have multiple templates in the article editor - meaning if I wanted to post a movie review I would dropdown Article Category to Movie Review and it would bring up the input template for that Category (maybe it has only 5 or 6 fields), whereas if I dropped down to DVD review, it would bring up the template for that category (maybe it has 9-10 fields). This would make things easier for my writers too if I could just name the input fields what they'd show up on the site as, instead of Field 1, Field 3, etc... 2) Better/Easier indexing - it's a bit of a pain to have to switch the sorting of articles if I want to list them alphabetically versus by the date posted... I would like to see an easier way of indexing by date posted, alphabetically, by author, by featured articles... 3) Mass field switch - what I mean by this is simple - for a while I was using a a field for a jpg filename, my writers would upload this JPG to my site and then enter the name in the appropriate field. I would then use this field in putting the JPG on my site
<img src="http://whatever/$art_field_whatever$"> When my brain started working properly, I realized it would be just as easy to have them upload the images like they did screencaps in their reviews, using the image editor... What I'd like to be able to do is switch all these old fields to ***image#:center*** in all those old reviews... I don't know if that makes sense or not... Okay, so another example could be - suppose I put an old e-mail address in 100 or so articles. I'd like to have the ability to change that specific field in those articles wihtout having to go through the articles one by one... 4) Comments - You've seen it on news sites, that little comment button that allows you to praise or cut down a post - and I think this would be a neat little inclusion 5) Field Searching for Administrators - This relates to number 3 - I would like Admins to have the ability to search within articles for keywords in specific fields... making it easier to track down broken links and continuity errors... I just want to say that I'd been looking for a program like article manager for a long time before I finally stumbled upon it, and I have been extremely happy with the power it's given me over content managment. I know that these suggestions are probably easier done with an SQL version, and I can't wait until we get to see that... Cheers, Chris McGeachy

Thanks for the suggestions! As you know, we're focused on mySQL right now, but I'll add your ideas to our feature request list. One thing of note - you mentioned interest in a "comments" feature, and one of our users posted a useful PHP script to our forum: http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=30615#30615 Theo Wiersma Project Manager
