Article Manager Feature Requests

Some of these are repeats, but I figured the more people who ask, the higher priority you might give to a feature request: 1) Add a content box to the create/modify category page that can be used in the index/default.html template. 2) Allow all of the spare fields to also be used on the create/modify category page and in the index/default.html template. 3) Sub-categories. On the create/modify category pages, allow a category to be placed under root, or under any other category. Allow them to be nested indefinitely. Indent them on the admin display so it is easy to see the site map when you're administering the site. When this feature is enabled, I will personally be updating my templates to use a nested unordered list to display the category navigation in all likelihood rather than tables or in any sort of Javascript enabled menu system. 4) Allow each category to specify it's own file extensions for the articles (.cgi, .html, .xhtml, etc.). That way different categories can create different types of files. 5) Allow each category to specify it's own directory (/home, /products, /forums, etc.) and place all of that category's articles into that directory. 6) In the headlines/default.html template, allow for a row_selected field for the article like you have for the category in the category_list.html template. 7) (Mentioned in a previous post) Provide a breadcrumb template, similar to the search_form.html template, and a tag that would allow us to include it anywhere in any template. It ought be able to build the entire drill-down path (home > products > award winning books > fantasy > a fantasy article >, etc.) with each level linking to the category index page of that level. The template would allow us to make it look how we want it to. Ken Gary ~It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it!

A thought about the category index content request...plus a new request...

If you knew that you weren't going to use one particular article type anywhere in a category, then you could use the template for that article type to put content onto the index page. However, in my case, I'm always going to use all of the article types for their intended purposes, so I don't have a spare one to use this way. So, perhaps one way of giving us a way to get content onto a page, besides say using the summary article type for instance, would be to give us an additional article type, like the summary article, that we could use just for index page content. That way we could format article summaries differently than, let's call it an index content article type. Actually, multiple index content types would be even better for flexibility in having lots of ways to add content to an index page. ------ I've also thought of another feature request. I'd like for there to be unlimited "template_row2", "template_row3" etc., so that we can make three column or more tables, and more. Ken Gary ~It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it!

Even MORE Article Manager feature requests...

- Would like to be able to sort on filename - Would like $art_filename$ to be available in the templates, which would give you just the value that you entered in that field. - Would like $cat_filename$ to be available in the templates without the leading path information so that it only contains whatever is entered as the category filename. - Would like a $file_thispage$ for both the actual article page and the actual category page, not just their headlines, etc. Thanks for listening! Hi, Thanks for your feature suggestion. We had several requests for multi-page articles so one of our programmers (dlo) wrote an add-on script to handle this. Here is the link to the thread that discusses the Pagebreak script (and includes the script to download): http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/forum.cgi?post=1238 Cheers Damon Edis interactivetools.com
