Dear interactive tools, A tool like the image one for handling streaming media i.e. Windows Media / Real Media / Quick Time files would be brilliant. You'd need to provide a basic upload facility (to a set area/streaming server) and some kind of linking to enable a visitor to click the video link to open the media file in the media player they have choosen. Just an idea that would make your excellent product invaluable. Cheers, Simon --- Simon Lilly Web Bloke www.meridiantv.com ---

Thanks for the suggestions! There is a little trick with article manager to insert the URL of the uploaded file instead of an image block. You may be able to use that to upload video clips through the "Image Upload" section and then link to them like this: View Video Clip Of course, you'd need to add your video extensions to your "Accepted upload extensions" under Setup Options and increase the "Max file size for uploads" because video clips are going to be quite big. The only problem with this excellent suggestion is that our streaming media (and most other peoples i imagine) doesn't live on the same server as the article manager system. Our streaming media is kept on a dedicated Real server, this would also be true for any Windows Media streamed content. The current system would put the Real Media files in with the images and wouldn't run them as well as a server setup for streamed media would. Nice idea though, Simon --- Simon Lilly Web Bloke www.meridiantv.com ---

Hmm. Well I guess you could put in absolute links to the other server for them, but that's probably not ideal either. What are you doing right now? Are you posting them at all? What do you think would be an ideal setup? How would a "media manager" know about what clips you had on the other server? How would it work? What information would it have to store to make it easy to locate a particular clip? Do you use the same clips for multiple stories or just one clip once? I'm actually scheduled to begin work on a media/upload manager component shortly so any suggestions you had would be welcome. Dave Edis - Senior Developer interactivetools.com

Dave, I will put together some specifications after the weekend about the type of thing we'd like and e-mail them to you directly. We are one part of a national television station. Other part's may follow us in adopting Article Manager for news delivery and we're strongly suggesting to the other regional web teams that they at least try out your product. Thanks for all your support so far it's been fantastic. Simon --- Simon Lilly Web Bloke www.meridiantv.com ---
