Im sure this has been mentioned..... Would like the ability for users to subscribe by email to a subcategory of news. They would receive only a welcome message and the article headline and (optional as set by admin) tag line with a direct link to the story Would also need quick link within each email to easily unsubscribe their address Other Details: (script of message customizable by admin) (frequency of deliverable customizable by admin - daily, weekly, custom date range) (ability to make this automatic as a cron job or to manually send messages to subscribers as set by admin)

Hi RoaryW, Thanks for posting. You could setup a members only area is to use a user management software tool. Article Manager is best suited for maintaining the content on a website, so things like subscription management and restricting user access are best handled by software that is designed to do just that. Here are a couple of links to some collections of user management/password management software packages available: http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Password_Protection/ http://www.hotscripts.com/CGI_and_Perl/Scripts_and_Programs/Password_Protection/index.html Since you can specify specific directories to publish content to, setting this up is pretty easy. I don't know about the email notification features that you are describing there, but there may be a software package that includes someting like that. I hope that helps Regards, Cliff Stefanuk - Customer Service Manager support@interactivetools.com

Hey Gang, I'm currently working on a solution for that. Right now it is in the "CUMBERSOME" developmental-case stages. I have had a few successful tests and it look promising, but it's a real involving MajorDomo and the email notification feature in AM. All this would be a great add-on to AM as Cliff and I have already covered. Until then, here's my work-around. 1. Get a ListServer up and running 2. Restrict List Posting activation to the email you have set up in AM to receive emails when an article is posted. Most importantly... this address must be in the FROM area for the ListServer to approve sending, otherwise anyone can hijack you member list and post to everyone anything they like (thus restriction is a good thing). 3. Tweak the notify.txt file in templates/email to point to that specific AM category 4. On your server, set up email forwarding to receive email from the person you set up to receive emails when articles are posted to this cat. then set that email to forward to your domo account. 5. When an article is created in that specific category, an email is generated to this person (he could be fictitious), but he must be in the restricted_list_file.txt to pass and be approved for the broadcast. That's it. I've gotten it to work and have started trying to figure out ways to streamline this process and get people to be able to opt-in and opt-out using a form. I'll post the rest when I've got it working. Piece of cake... mmmmm cake! Stan StanTheMan

Hey Stan, Thanks for the update on your project! When you get the rest of it working, you may want to post your solutions into the ArtMan Add-ons forum so that all the other Article Manager users out there can tap into your workaround Regards, Cliff Stefanuk - Customer Service Manager support@interactivetools.com

That's actualy the easiest part of this whole thing. 1. Open the notify.txt file in your text editor (NotePad). It's located in the templates/email directory. The entire file is editble and allows for certain AM conventions for bringing in data from the CMS like Subject: Article $event$ by $user_fullname$ - status is $status$ Body: $user_fullname$ has $event$ the article entitled "$art_name$". Status: $status$. Summary: $art_summary$ You can even put in your own URL (fully qualified). I'm not sure andactualy doubt if you can use HTML here. AM's script is told to use the txt file. You would have to do some unsupported tweaking of the PERL script to get it to use a notify.html page. Cliff would be the one to know the answer to this. I was just happy getting a link in there. Without HTML there is not a whole lotta stealthy linking you can do. Ya just have to lay it out. I've attached my notify.txt. Not exactly a work of art, as this is a project still in beta... but I've tested it and it works. Stan StanTheMan

Hi Stan, Thanks for posting! Thanks for outlining the changes you made to notify.txt as well as attaching the file itself. I'm sure that Terry, along with anyone else who comes across this thread, will find it to be quite helpful. If you have any other questions or comments feel free to let me know!
