Article Manager: publishcron

Is there any way you could include some of publishcron's functionality in the next version of Article Manager? I have been getting some nasty emails from my webhost about CPU usage on their server, and they have finally threatened to shut my site down in a matter of days unless I resolve this. I have tried to install publishcron, but I am afraid it is beyond my ability. I'm just kind of a simple HTML guy, and setting up jobs to run on servers is over my head even with the instructions you have provided. I want to keep using article manager, because I really like it. I have looked through the forums and I am not the first person to have issues with CPU usage, from a host who is unhappy about it. I would like to see this feature included, and it would be neat if we could just customize it in the control panel for how often we wanted the job to run and create a static page. Thanks Chris Chris

Hi Chris. Thanks for posting! Publishcron is one of the ways around the extra work Article Manager needs to do when publishing large amounts of articles. Because Article Manager 2.0 is going to be using a MySQL backend, the publishing process is going to take way less resources on the server. That basically means the benefits of Publishcron on large data files will be covered in Article Manager 2.0 Does that help? Let me know if you have anymore questions . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hi Mike and Chris. Mike brings up a really good point here. Publishcron can be setup so that it runs automatically each time you create/delete a new article or use any of the Publish All buttons in Setup Options. This basically is a real easy work around to having to setup cron jobs and the like. There are even some instructions on our site on how to get this going. Have a look: http://www.interactivetools.com/products/articlemanager/tutorials_artman_rss.html The one thing about that tutorial is that it is going over how to setup an RSS feed which isn’t what I think you are after. Don’t worry about that though as the process is the same regardless of what you are trying to create with the publishcron. Just skip step one which covers setting up the RSS template. Steps 2 and 3 are going to be what you are after. Setting up the Publishcron script and then getting it to run when you create/delete articles. We are also here to help as well, so have a read through that and let me know if you have any question . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
