Article Manager: Ability to add articles but not to main

Would be nice to have a button (which is checked by default) for every article which simply says: 'Feature on Main Page?' Ideally...im looking for a way to add articles to certain categories but not for them to show on the main page at all. I get a lot of minor press releases and stories which may be newsworthy to some people but doesnt warrant being on the front page in all cases.

Hi Roary, Thanks for posting! To stop a category from displaying its articles on the main page is to select: “Hide published articles and category pages” when you are modifying a category. While this is also going to remove this category from your category list, you could hardcode a link to it in the “/templates/category_list.html” page. I hope this helps, but just let me know if you need anymore details or have another question . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

I don't want to hide an entire category. Some news in those categories I mentioned are worthy of being on the main page...just a small percentage are not For instance if I have 'music' as a category....I wouldnt want to hide the entire category...how would the big stories make it to the main page? Main Page Worthy: X artist takes home 6 grammys News worthy but not main page worthy Album Review: Some Random Group In other words I would want some articles to appear on the main page -- but others would not be worthy to be on the main page....which i view as a place for top news if that makes sense (ie you dont see everything in CNNs technology category on the main page...but if there was big news---you just may -- like todays Ipod high storage device announcement -- but the fact that some kid created a computer is not worthy of the news main page but some people may want to read it. To sum...the ability to delist individual stories from the main page but keep them in their category would be an appreciated feature which I think would be useful (secondary or minor news is indeed news too but not always worthy of being on the front page -- a major newspaper doesnt list Ms Flora the flower shop lady who created a rose hybrid on their main page because she is chronologically the latest story....they will stick her in the lifestyle section for interested parties to read...do you see where Im going now?) Think about it at least. I dont like work-arounds with programs to be honest. Forums like this are for customer opinions to grow your products (although....Thanks for recommending something in the meantime)

Just wondering... would it not be possible to solve this by: 1. Use one of the spare fields to mark which articles to placed on the front page 2. Make a search in this particular field to find all these articles, and... 3. embed the search result as SSI on the front page Regards Kjell

Thats even more of a difficult work around that the guy from interactive tools made. I don't want to patch, band-aid, force, rework, jury-rig, or reprogram my scripts in anyway. The program is nice and because of it my site has grown by leaps and bounds. The layout is wonderful...the admin panel is very simple. But in evolving to be a more news-savvy site and continuing my business with such a fine product (i dont want to 'graduate' to another product....id like to see this one get even better over time) (Mock Scenario) The guy that grew a 10 pound potato shouldnt be the lead story on my main page simply because i just added it (but i dont care if he is the lead story in his individual category).....but the fact that I interviewed the mayor about his new home purchase and personal life could actually be listed due to the popularity of a figure like that and would appear in the same (unhidden) lifestyle section. -- And i wouldnt want to hide, patch, band-aid, force, rework, jury-rig, or manually link to the section. Just asking for a small peice of functionality in the proper forum....but I do appreciate the work-arounds (others with the same issues may make them of use). -- i think that growing the tool to have an individual story main page delisting option could be of good use....or the inverse....simply a button that says 'Feature on The Main Page' which is checked by default for all articles which you could uncheck for lesser news stories would be perfect. Again - thanks for the replies!

True. You don't want every story on your main page.
