AM needs an EVENTS CALENDAR, etc Can't Post

It would be great if Article Manager had a ready-made events calendar feature. So many content-oriented web sites need to post events in an "at a glance" format, sort this category by REVERSE DATE, and auto-expire events that have passed.

Also, posting the same article to multiple categories without the article appearing twice would be a nice feature. (i.e. and article on Michael Jackson's trial may need to go in both the MUSIC and LEGAL areas of a web site).

So far, the lack of these 2 features have made me hestitate to buy. I probably will buy it, but I would have JUMPED on it if it has these.

Thanks for listening.

Hi Jamila.

Thanks for posting!

Both of these features are actually fairly popular items on our feature request now however, I’ll get your name on here too.

You can always start working with the software before the versions with these features come out though because we offer free upgrades all the time Smile.

I hope this helps. Just let me know if you had any other suggestions Smile.

Re: [ross] AM needs an EVENTS CALENDAR, etc [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ross,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm a bit concerned about basing my purchase on the expectation of "free upgrades," though -- based on the changelog for Article Manager, it doesn't seem like significant upgrades happen on any frequent basis. I've been reading through the posts and it seems the new version has been delayed for more than 2 years due to the addition of mySQL, and still isn't on the market.

Any estimated time of arrival?

Thanks,

Jamila

Hi Jamila

Thanks for getting back to me!

I totally understand you concerns and I didn’t mean to imply that you should base purchase decisions on free upgrades that haven’t been release. I was thinking that you would rather work with Article Manager and its current features, rather than wait for the next upgrade.

Specifically about the calendar feature though, what I have found is that many of our clients have found scripts that are specifically designed to handle event calendars and included them onto their Article Manager templates. Article Manager’s main focus is the article and category content and is best suited for that.

Because there are just so many things that can come up to delay a project, we avoid predicting any release dates. We would hate to set a date that you were relying on for a project, and then have unforeseen circumstances get in the way of that. We have even found setting release dates can lead to untested and unfinished products being released because of the rush to meet a date.

From what I've seen though, the next version of Article Manager is going to be great.

I hope this helps. Feel free to post up anymore questions and I would be more than happy to go over them with you Smile.

Re: [ross] AM needs an EVENTS CALENDAR, etc [In reply to] Can't Post

Article Manager provides exceptional flexibility, although I find it a little difficult to configure on its own... can't wait to try to get add-ins to work with it, etc.

I agree that a calendar allowing multiple users with log-ins at different permission levels would significantly advance AM's value to community news and entertainment portal providers like <a href="http://www.digitalBURG.com">digitalBURG.com</a>.

Additionally, a classified adds software add-in that plays nicely with the AM and Calendar functions would be fantastic. One of the problems I find with classified ad software is that they want to go ASP (supposedly to make the storefront for payments work right). Oh, yes... I know you have a classified ad software program. I didn't, however, notice that it allows people to PAY for the classified ads.

Thanks for all your support and forums.
