AM - Add articles via e-mail

How about the ability to add articles to Article Manager via e-mail. You could have a list of valid e-mails, that the message can come from, and it would automatically take the various components of the e-mail and fill out the forms of the article. The use for us is, we have a daily devotional that we send out from a list server and we would like to automate putting that online. If we could then set up some e-mail interface with AM, then when we send the devotion out it would also be sent to AM and it would then put it online. You could set up the options of automatically publishing the article or leave it in pending status, then all you have to do is go change the status. I don't know how easy that would be, but it would be a nice feature.

Hi mpercit, That's an interesting idea, but it does sound like a bit of custom job. So just to clarify, in your instance this would be useful since your could send out an email to a large number of people - including Article Manager, and in doing so put it online. Did I understand you correctly? Ben interactivetools.com

Most of the suggestions we've had so far would be to do this the other way around. Create the various stories in Article Manager, and then use some add-on membership tool to send this out to your subscribers. Would that work as well? Benjimin, you are correct. Fraser. It might work that way, but we already have a list server handle our e-mails. I guess if you are going to build in a list server into the members area, that could work.

Fraser - I could do with both bits of functionality, but, like mpercit, I could really do with the ability to send emails to Article Manager for automatic publication.

Hi Jon, I have to agree with you, both of these features (sending emails for publication and sending out articles to subscribers) are good ideas. We've had a good number of requests for a membership tool for sending out articles to subscribers, so if we were going to work on one of these two, it would probably be the subscriber one first. That said, while there's no immediate plan to add these features, they're definitely on our wish list. If you have any other feature suggestions, please feel free to let us know! I would list the receiving emails as a way to submit articles as a higher priority. Having the ability to subscribe my discussion lists to populate AM with the history of conversations would be huge. This would allow me to drop to a simple majordomo system and not have to provide the history with other tools. Right now, i have to provide multiple search options, depending on what my user base wants to copy? just my vote. jeff Jeff Cocking Lotus Elan (AM 1.38) VoIP Phone Comparisons (AM 2.02)

My two cents: the emailing articles to be included for publication is a really good idea -- talk about simplifying the process. The emailing to subscribers is equally good for different reasons. I've also seen many people on these forums discussing protecting content for members only also, in some cases so they can charge for it. I'm using a script called Announcer to handle my newsletter subscribers. It comes from Ubidog Productions. This script is pretty good and easy to configure, and they offer one called AccountHandler that manages a membership database AND access to protected areas of the website. Sounds like I'm propping up an Interactive Tools competitor, but the problems are that their support team is rude, impatient, and doesn't seem to like users' ideas. Plus they don't continually add features to their products. You guys at IT should take a look at that AccountHandler script, I'd truly buy it from you guys in a heartbeat if you offered something similar, especially if it included aspects mentioned in this thread -- I'm purposely failing to buy it from them because of the lack of support and product enhancements. Luke, Just inquiring as to whether there has been any work on using e-mail to notify subscribers about new articles posted in Article Manager. I think here about how list-serves will either deliver a copy of each new post (or alternatively, will deliver a daily or weekly or monthly "digest" or summary to all subscribers. Such a feature in Article Manager would be ideal for users such as myself (with a community website, www.ShawDC.com). Many of my readers love to find local news content, get excited for a time, but then trail off when they don't find daily news article updated. These same readers would be glad to be notified (perhaps weekly, perhaps monthly, and perhaps in between regular notices when breaking news articles are posted, or a special event is coming up), and would thus return when prompted. Now, they are frequently missing important articles in a timely way, because they come back randomly to check for new articles. This feature is key to taking our use of Article Manager from nice, good, fun, to great, awesome, perhaps even better.

Hi conexos Thanks for posting! This is definitely getting to be a popular request. At this time, the developers are busy working away on the MySQL version of Article Manager and I am not exactly sure if they are going to be including any other new features. For the time being though, I’ll add your name to the list of people who are also interested in this feature. Just let me know if you have anymore questions . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
