AM: Article Moved Can't Post

I'd like to suggest a feature for Article Manager...I ran into a prorblem where I had an article posted, and the link was put on several forums. But, we had to move the article (it was in the wrong category), and the previous link that had been posted was no longer valid.

A nice feature to have, if an article is moved, is a page that would come up and say "This article has been moved." with a meta refresh and a link to the new story.

Hi Bryan :)

That's a bit odd -- an article's filename is based on it's article number, not the category -- moving it from one category to another shouldn't have changed the filename. The only way an article's filename should change is if you specifically change it by making use of a feature that allows you to specify the filename.

So, article #30, for example, will always be article_30.shtml -- regardless of what category it's in.

This is, of course, customizable .... so you may have made changes to this in some other way.

Alternately, you may be having this problem if the article wasn't a full article, and was a summary, internet link or uploaded file instead. In which case, there isn't much we can do, since there's no full article published for those types -- simply a link to the index page.

Can you give me more details about any other option you may have changed?

Re: [Donna] AM: Article Moved [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, if a story is at www.website.com/sports/soccer/article_1.html and it gets moved to www.website.com/sports/football/article_1.html, and the user posted the first link (/soccer/) in a forum somwhere, but it gets moved, the first link is no longer active even if the article name doesnt change.

That's what I'm getting anyway.

Hi Bryan,

Ahh, I see. So because you've got your categories publishing to different directories, you're right, it does delete the old one when it creates the new one.

I'll definitely pass that along as a feature request. :)
