$created_by$ not working on article? Can't Post

Why does the $created_by$ variable not display on the article page? I have used the work arounds:

<tr>
<td><br><font style="font-size: 12px;" face="arial, sans-serif">Author &nbsp;</font></td>
<td><br><input name="spare1" value="$created_by$" size="50" type="text"></td>
</tr>

...with now luck, in the preview the created by name is diplayed as a single number (5, or 1), but in the published article, it's blank.

The Author (art_field1) variable works fine. But I have 5 (only) users that post articles every day (5-10 each) and theyre requesting that their name be published as their full name so they dont have to re-type everythime.

Any help?

Thanks

Hi there.

Thanks for posting and welcome to the board!

Damon actually put together great post that I think will be a neat alternative for you here. Basically, you’re author’s name will automatically show up for them on their articles.

Have a look at the post here:

Let me know what you think Smile.

Thank you for the reply. There was not link posted. Although I think I know what your are refering to, I went through that entire tutorial and implemented it. Still no luck. The change called to use the $created_by$ variable withing the hard code in the "authors" art_field1. It would not produce the data.

Any ideas?

Hi again.

Sorry about the link. I didn’t quite get the markup right so it didn’t display properly. The link is in there now so have a look to see if it’s the same tutorial you were going through and let me know how you make out this time Smile.

That was it. Still no luck. The $created_by$ variable displays nothing in conventional and this tutorial method unfortunately.

Hi,

Thanks for the post!

I will be happy to look into this issue for you however it will be a little hard to track the issue down without actually seeing the various template files and the changes that you have made. :)

What you may want to do is fill out a support request with ftp information so that we can log on to your server and take a look at this for you.

You can fill out a support request here:

https://www.interactivetools.com/support/email_support.cgi

You may want to refer to this post in your support request so that we are able to see a full history of the issue that you are having.

Once I am able to login to the server I will be happy to take a closer look at this for you. :)
