Hi All,
Thought this might be of interest to some.
I've used AM1 on a number of sites and always had to customise for a gallery feature (not sure if AM2 is any better at this). It's always been a bit of a pain and very basic.
However just finished blending AM with a flash slideshow/gallery app found here http://www.monoslideshow.com (with a little help from interactive support).
I only needed a basic slideshow this time but the possibilites are endless see what I came up with: http://www.theprostore.co.uk/ism/sites/masters/slidetest.php.
With monoslideshow you can movie controls and loads of different effects and it can intergrate with images and content from AM because you can get AM to create the xml feed that the .swf movie reads from.

If you don't know how to create xml feeds in AM there are simple tutorials on the interactivetools website.

If you need tips on creating a gallery page, this thread might be useful (but it's likely you could come up with a better solution using this intergration of Am and monoslide):

I haven't used it but the monslideshow has a lovely effect which gently pans and zooms in on photos, also i opted to customise my fonts which though a pain wasn't that difficult by creating an asset library in another .swf file (there are tutorials for this on their site),
