external text file Can't Post

Hi There

I am wondering if I can make reference to an external text file that is held on the main site. I have a problem. I have been asked to prepare a page with nine images in a square within other content. On clicking any of the images a single image will appear in the space where the nine were with all the text remaining the same.

Initially I said that this would be no problem as I thought I would do ten duplicates of the page with the only difference being the image. I just now have realised that they will have to make changes to ten pages instead of just the one when they wish to update content.

Is there any way of page publisher making reference to a separate text file which, when updated once, will change certain content on any web page making reference to it.

Hi Damien.

Thanks for posting!

I am not actually quite sure of what you are aiming for here. From the sounds of it, you might be able to use what is called “Server Side Includes” but I would need a few more details about your situation.

An SSI is used to pull in content from one page and display it on another page. What I have seen in the past is if you had some common content that needs to appear on several pages, you would just stick it in a file by itself and then use an include to make it appear on each of the other pages.

Page Publisher, then, would be used to update that one external file and the changes would appear on all the pages it’s included on.

Does that make sense? Does it seem like something that would work for you?

Let me know what you think Smile.
