Page Publisher 1.24 Released - Private Label version/PML enhancements Can't Post

All of our products have been released with new Private Label capabilities. With this release, complete rebrandability of the software is now available, giving you total flexibility in charging your clients - without worrying about competing with our prices.

Complete rebranding removes ANY mention of interactivetools.com, even the original name of the product.

Page Publisher 1.24 also has some enhancements, including preservation of HTML attributes in certain PML tags, and some new features for image_select and file_select. See the links below for more information.

I am a little confused by the upgrade instructions.
1.In the first row it mentions pp.cgi but then says "Upload the admin.cgi file ..." Is admin.cgi the same as pp.cgi?

2. In row 3 it mentions interface/ & interface/*.*. Are these new directories or the same ones as the old template/ ? Should the directory name be changed?

3. Why does it say "The file permissions for these files are world readable (chmod 644), " when File and Path Permission Requirements in Getting Started says template files (and others) should be Writeable chmod 777?

It's the inconsistencies that I find confusing.

Steve,

The Page Publisher upgrade docs were templated from some other products, so a few of the details unique to this product seem to have been overlooked. I've revised the upgrade docs to reflect the correct file and folder names for pp.cgi and templates/.

http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/doc.cgi?/pagepublisher/upgrade.html

As far as permissions - both will work. The original install docs were written with a lot of broad Writable (777) permissions to make installation simpler to configure for first time users. But files that are read by the program (such as templates, images, htmlArea files) do not require writable permissions.

Thanks for pointing out the errors, sorry for the confusion. :)

I am very happy you added the ability to link to images. HOWEVER (and you knew it was coming) one feature that is missing is the ability to set the target, so if you want the link to spawn a new window, it cannot.

This is a needless oversight, IMHO. Maybe you should make this a contol in the PML? This level of control should really be in your WYSIWYG link creation, too. The Page Publisher is really coming along otherwise.

Hope to see this control added. Sure, one can go back and edit the HTML, but that defeats 99% of what this tool is supposed to accomplish (make it easy for non-techies to edit their sites).

One other change you might want to consider is the ability to sort pages by either name OR by last updated. Of course the sort should allow for A/D so you can see what files are most recent or those that haven't been updated in a while (if ever) since being added.

How about adding spell check too?

Happy Holidays.

Page Publisher 1.24 includes preservation of HTML attributes within image and image_select content. If you add the link html to the content within the tags, it will preserve any attributes in that link. For example, if you add the following to your page, you'll have an image_select that will open the link in a new window:

Code

<!-- publish type="image_select" name="Image Link" allowlink="yes"--><a href="http://www.interactivetools.com" target="_new"></a><!-- /publish -->

Rather that continuing to load up the PML tags with more and more attributes, preserving the attributes within the HTML provides tremendous flexibility for customization.

Currently HTML attributes are preserved within PML types image, link, email, image_select, and file_select.

Thanks for your post, Pete! Let me know if you have any more questions about the PML enhancements. Smile

Thanks Theo.

I updated my post just around the same time you replied, so please go back and take a few seconds to see what I added ;-)

Pre-loading is the name of the game. I just made 10 image placeholders for the page, for the client to add the images and then I hard-coded a "CHANGE ME" URL in each position, with the appropriate "target" and then selected NONE for the image, so the link doesn't show until the image is there (and hopefull changed to the proper one).

Adding "target" still may be something though for the WYSIWYG editor to have, so that in situations where you need the flexibility, but want to keep the HTML out of the hands of those that should not have access, it's there.

Pete:

Actually, once the administrator has set up the PML tag as I described above, any image selected with that tag will have the "target" attribute - the target won't be lost when the content is updated using Page Publisher. I'm definitely not advocating getting users to mess about in the HTML. Wink

You've added a few other ideas for us to mull over when we continue building out Page Publisher in the new year. A spellchecker would be nice for the WYSIWYG across the board for all products, and like you, I want to do some tweaks to the way pages are listed in Page Publisher.

Hope you have a happy new year, Pete!

Theo,

Are you able to have a <!-- publish type="link" --> also open in a new window?

Hi Disbro,

Yes, this is possible to do - just add a target attribute when setting up this tag, like so:

<!-- publish type="link" --><a href="http://yoursite.com" target="_blank"><!-- /publish -->

Let us know if you have any other questions. Smile
