PP messing up accents

PP messing up accents Can't Post
I recently rebuilt from scratch a client's site, which has PP on it, using Dreamweaver on a Mac. (I built the first version with different software but on the same Mac.) The site is in French, and now when my client, who uses Explorer on a PC, makes changes to a page, the accents in the new text are all wrong. I tried it from my Mac, using Safari and Firefox, and there's no problem. Do you know whether this a Mac/PC, a browser or a Dreamweaver related problem?

Hi, thanks for replying.

Here's the page my client tried, although I went in via PP and fixed the accents. http://www.larebenne.com/VTT/maroc/raidvtt/index.html He said it happened when he changed the orange type at top and the text in the red band at the left but not the black text in the middle. I asked him if he copied and pasted from a Word doc but he said no, he typed directly onto the PP page.

Hi Kim,

Hmm, definitely a bit odd. Would you be able to make a copy of the page with the wrong accents that I can see? Basically, just make a copy of your existing page, then go in and save it with Page Publisher... then you can rename the old (correct) page back to the regular file name, and rename the (incorrect) page to something else I can take a look at without having your site showing invalid entries.

Donna, I already corrected the page from my Mac, via PP, after my client complained. The accent problem occurs when he tries it from his PC using Explorer. I asked him to install Firefox and see if the same thing happens using that browser but I haven't heard back.

I presume you have PC available to test this, so I've duplicated the page in question and gave you a user account to access it. You can try making a change to the text, adding accents, and see if it happens to you. (Since you're in Canada I assume you know how to make French accents.) Go to http://www.larebenne.com/VTT/maroc/raidvtt/index1.html and log in using "donna" with password "pptest"

The problem occurred mainly in the top titles and in the text in the lefthand column.

Er, actually... well, being on the west coast means we're about as far away from the french part of Canada as we can be and still be in the same country... I took German instead. ;)

Would you be able to send me a bit of text that causes the problem? That way I can just copy & paste it. :)

I checked the site through PP today and now it's even screwing up the accents on my Mac. I've had to tell my client not to make any changes, because whenever you save a page, all the accents switch to other symbols, not just the ones in the new text. This is a real headache!
