New installation of Page Publisher Can't Post

I have never installed one of these products and thought I would have a go myself so I could learn how to do it for all of my future customers, but I'm only a minute into it and I'm already having problems.

I uploaded all the unzipped files to a folder on the server called "AdminPanel". I then navigated to www.mywebsite.com/AdminPanel/index.html assuming this would install Page Publisher. It redirected to www.mywebsite.com/AdminPanel/pp.cgi and then displayed the below error message.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? Unsure Thanks!

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@mywebsite.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Re: [AgentBristow] New installation of Page Publisher [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi AgentBristow.

Thanks for posting and welcome to the board!

There are two common reasons for why you are getting that error message. The first is related to permissions. Your pp.cgi file is going to need “755” permissions on a Unix/Linux server or “read/execute” on a windows server. If that checks out ok, the second reason is that the pp.cgi has been corrupted during the installation. Try deleting it, re-uploading it and changing its permissions one more time.

If all that doesn’t get you going, I was hoping you could fill out an installation form for me:

https://www.interactivetools.com/support/free_installation.cgi

I wouldn’t finish the install for you, I would just check to make sure the installation can actually be finished. There might be a setting that needs adjusting on the server by your webhost and I have some test scripts that can help track this sort of thing down.

How does all that sound? Keep me up to date with how you are making out Smile.

Hi Ross,
Thanks for the reply. How do I do the following:

"Your pp.cgi file is going to need “755” permissions on a Unix/Linux server or “read/execute” on a windows server."

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for posting! Smile

The way to change permissions on the server is really going to depend on the type of server you have. If you're using a Unix server then you should be able to make your changes through some kind of FTP client by modifying the properties or setting on this file.

On a Windows server you would generally need to make this change through some kind of admin control panel that your hosting company has provided for you. If you're not too sure of the type of server or how to make this change you may want to get in touch with your host and get some additional details from them.

Also, as Ross mentioned, if you follow the link in his post we should actually be able to get onto the server and finish everything up for you.

In the meantime if you have any other questions or comments, just let me know! Smile
