Images and such Can't Post
Hey Gang, I'm new to PP, but do have some experience with MSCMS (so that may be distorting my thinking).Wink I'm trying to get my arms around images and sizes and how they are placed. If I pre-define the image size in it's HTML tag, does that in effect create a "placeholder" of that size for ANY image the client may put there? If so, what does it do to the image if the one specified isn't the right (i.e., same) size? Distort it? Leave white space? Can I specify only the height or only the width? That way, if the aspect ratio is a bit off, will it still look OK?

If I DON'T specify a size, but try to limit the placement with, for instance, a table cell, what will happen with images of different dimensions? And if I use a table, where do I put the publish tag? In the cell? Outside the table?

Hi Ken.

Thanks for posting and welcome to the board!

Page Publisher will actually take any attribute you have in an html tag and stick them back in when it updates the page. That means if you have a height and width set for your image and them Page Publisher updates it, that same height and width will remain in tack.

Now, with tables, you find that any size setting you put on them is treated as a minimum value. For example, if you have a table cell set to 50x50 but add an image that is 100x100, that table will stretch to 100x100. If you put a 10x10 image into that same cell though, the image won’t stretch out to 50x50, but the table cell itself will still be that width.

Hi Ross, and thanks for the reply. I think I understand a bit better. Just to belabor the point a bit, let me make sure I understood what you said.

If I specify an image size in the tag, PP will maintain that size limit regardless of the ACTUAL size of the image used. So, conversely, if I DON'T specify size, PP will load the image at its original size.

Here's my situation: I want to give my client the ability to load images to various pages, but I need to "control" the sizes so the images will fit into the spots on the page where they belong. If I "pre-size" the images (inside the tag), and they load a wrong sized image, it will be distorted. So, they will need to do some graphics manipulation before they load the image(s), which they may or may not be comfortable with.

Suggestions?

Thanks for getting back in touch!

You are definitely on track with this one. By adding the size attributes to your <img> tags, Page Publisher will load the images in at that size each time, which could lead to some distortion if the image your client uploads is too large.

The first thing I can think of here would be to let them know in advance what size each image needs to be and then let them use this great little site to easily re-size their images if needed:
