Directory Management Can't Post
Is it possible to manage things at a directiry level instead of the individual page level?

For example. I may have users in different directories, say /www/usr1, /www/usr2/, with multiple files in each directory. I will not know all the files that may be included in the directories at any given time.

So can I just set user access permissions at the directory level and let the software read all the files in that directory for editing? For example, usr1 has access to any and all files (current and future) in /www/usr1/.

The demo site only shows one directory level.



Any thoughts.

Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum! I also got your email, but thought that I'd post here to that everyone can benefit from the answer.

With Page Publisher you can set it up so that it can edit any page on the website, regardless of the directory that it's in. From there, you can setup pages so that they are only able to be updated by certain users. For example if you have directories like this:

E.g.

/www/jim/
/www/susan/
/www/cliff/

All you need to do is add the pages that you want to have edited by Page Publisher through the Administrator area, and set then up so users update their resepective pages in their directories.

If I understand you correctly, I would still need to manually tell the software which actual pages are available for edit. What i wouldl ike to do is just say that any files in this directory are available (including future ones) for editing. Then I could add permissions at the directory level.

Hi,

Page Publisher is designed to work on a page by page basis so there isn't actually a way to allow someone to update all of the pages in a directory just by choosing that directory.

That said, you could give your users the option to add pages themselves through Page Publisher. Basically this would mean that once a new page was added to the server (and their directory) they could click the "Add Page" button and browse the server to find that new file to give them access to make changes to it.
