Adding wmv files to to website via Page Publisher Can't Post
Hi,

Is it possible to add a movie file (wmv) ~25MB to a website via Page Publisher?
If so, how?
I have added wmv extension to the file upload section in the Set Up options of Page Paublisher Admin site.

Hi there

Thanks for posting and welcome to the board!

You definitely can upload wmv files with Page Publisher. You can actually upload any file you like as long as its extension is in your list. Since you already did this for wmv, all you need to do is add the file_select publishing tag to one of your pages where you want the link to the movie to go. Here's an example:

Thanks for that info, Ross.
I did this and I also linked the url of the wmv via the hyperlink icon.
Both methods worked but there are some issues I hope you can help me with.
Visit the following link http://www.aperfectevent4u.com.au/product_catalogue.wmv. This is the url of the video file. As you can see it is ~23MB and takes ages to download, and it also doesn't open in it's own browser window. You have to open it on your computer.
Is this because it is in wmv format?
Should it be in a different format - e.g. qtp, etc?
The url also appears blank in Firefox too.
Any suggesitons would be much appreciated.

Hi again

What I am thinking would be best here is if you could give me an idea of what you actually want to do. There a bunch of different ways to work with the files you upload in Page Publisher so narrowing it down a bit will make things easier.

For example, were you looking to embed the wmv file into your browser, or do you just want it to keep popping up into a new window?

As for the load time, there isn't too much we can do there. Downloading a 23 meg file is always going to take a while.

If you could get back to me on this, I'll see what options we have and get into explaining them for you Smile.

Embedding the wmv file into the browser, or having it pop up into a new window are both ideas I prefer to what is happening now.

Thanks for getting back to me!

I am actually going to have to think a bit more about the embedded video option as my original idea turned out not to be something that could be setup Smile.

For now though, what you could do is stick this code onto your page where the link to your wmv file needs to be:

<a href="aaaa.wmv" target="_blank">View Video</a> 
 
<!-- /publish -->

That should make it so the link opens in a new window for you. Don't worry about the aaaa.wmv part though. That's just a dummy link that Page Publisher is going to adjust for you anyway.

This is the only reference to video on the forum that I found.

I do want to have a box on a page for the video to be displayed in. I do not want extra browser windows to pop up. I think below the box I will have links to the video that my clients download. clink link video playes in the box.

any info on how to set it up.

Hi John,

Thanks for your post. :)

This is how you would embed a movie in a Page Publisher document.

1. Create a new page in the Page Publisher interface.

2. In the page content add your embed information, it needs to be in a text field and not a WYSIWYG field (otherwise the code will likely be changed). Page publisher tags can't go within the embedded video information.

3. Add the movie file as a file upload but leave the link text blank.

4. When the user wants to change the movie file, they need to manually enter the new URL in the embed statement, in the three required places.

Please note that for this solution to work, the user will need to be familiar with how to insert the URL in the correct place and have to know the full URL for the movie file they are trying to link to.

I hope this information makes sense, please let me know if you have any more questions.
