WYSIWYG not showing?! Can't Post

Hello, just upgraded News Manger from 1.07 to 1.11 however the WYSIWYG editor is not showing up.

Pages loads with an error (in the navigation bar of the browser that reads:

"Done but with errors on the page"

I have checked all settings, file CHMOD's, and -yes- the check mark in "on" in set-up options >WYSIWYG.

Not sure wha tI missed here... ?

Pat

Hi noza

Thanks for posting Smile

It sounds some of the htmlArea files may be missing.

What I suggest is to find the directory where your images are uploaded, and then inside that directory is another one called "htmlarea". Simply replace that one on your web server with the one in the .zip file you got when you upgraded, and that should fix the problem.

If that doesn't work, you can fill out a support request and have one of us fix that for you. Smile

Re: [Cliff] WYSIWYG not showing?! [In reply to] Can't Post

Have already done that before posting. Last night I also filed a tech support email. However, I would rather take care of it myself. Any other ideas? By the way... are all files FTP ASCII ? or does the EDITOR.JS FTPs binary? I have also checked everyting else file p[ermissions, etc.

Hi Noza,

Thanks for your post. :)

Are you able to load the htmlArea demo on our site? You can find this here:

http://www.interactivetools.com/products/htmlarea/index.html#demo

The .js files should be uploaded ASCII, images should be binary.

Let me know if you're still having problems. :)

Re: [Donna] WYSIWYG not showing?! [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, and everythng has been uploaded and re-uploades several times from the upgrade Zip 1.11

HOWEVER, i think I found the problem... the template with the WSIWYG "java script" is calling for the location of the editor.js in /htmlarea/ rather than /htmlArea/ (where it is)

To test my theory, I changed the name of the direcotry in the server to /htmlarea/ The editor showed up! Yet I don't think.... is the right fix.... Why is it calling the wrong directory /htmlarea/ rather than /htmlArea/ ?? and How do I fix it.

UPDATE: Can't find where to correct this variable mistake in the templat called when you select WYSIWYG in the SetUp menu... for now I'm changing the name in the server to all lower case: /htmlarea/ it works but ???

Hi Pat,

Thanks for your post. :)

The best way around that is exactly what you've done -- to rename the folder to all lowercase.

Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Thank you but is this a bug in the script...?

Why is it calling the wrong directory URL?

Where is the variable pull from?

What is the "permanent" fix to maintain the integrity of the program?

Pat

Hi Pat,

Thanks for your post.

You're right, It's a wee bug -- the bug is actually the mis-naming of the htmlArea folder, not the variable in the script.

This will be fixed in the next release. :)

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for your post.

Actually, in looking at the latest releases of Job Manager, the htmlarea folder is actually named correctly -- in all lowercase (as is how it's supposed to be.)

I'm not really sure why yours ended up mispelled.

However, rest assured that renaming the folder to match the appropriate variable name being called doesn't hurt the software at all. That's exactly how it SHOULD work.

Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Donna,

You should review the postings.... News Manager 1.11 is what we have been talking about.... no Job Manager. Again I' surprise no one else had problems with it.

You're right... the folder should be call "htmlarea" but IF YOU LOOK AT THE ZIP FOR News Manager... You'll see the problem. The News Manager ZIP.... COMES with the folder labeled in THE ZIP as "htmlArea" instead. You should related info to tech support and fix THE ZIP... HAS GOT A BUG!! or perhaps a A TyPo!

By the way, I just dowloaded the zip again... it is in fact labeled "htmlArea"
yOU GOT A tYpO BUG!
Pat

Hi Pat,

Ah, that would make a difference. :)

Yes, you're right -- there's a typo in the folder name of News Manager. It will be fixed in the next release.

Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Thanks for spotting the typo. It's been fixed in the upgrade downloads. Note that this typo only affected News Manager running on non-Windows servers.

Windows servers are not case sensitive. That's likely why it feels like you're alone in encountering this defect, since many users will work perfectly. :)

Thanks for helping us chase this down, Pat.
